Title: How many Slices of Cheese
Post by: tp4tissue on Mon, 10 October 2016, 18:16:16
Have always felt 2 slices is just not enough..   like them double whopper rip-offs @ burgerking

Drawn the line at 5 slices though,  beyond that point, really gums up the sandwich and you can't taste any of the other ingrediants.

Your thoughts ?

This question is very situational.... What kind of sandwich? What kind of cheese? Singles or hand cut? Be more specific, man, geez... I take cheese seriously

Hrrrrrmmmm..

I suppose the metric is   cheese to bread ratio..

For me it's 5x slices of cheese to 2 slices of white bread..

Two cuts, each cut the size of a domino. Maybe some NY style Cheddar when I can find it :)

Unless it's a grilled cheese or some kind of melt, 5 is too much. 3 or 4 max, depending on the type of sandwich and cheese. When your stack of cheese is thicker than a slice of the bread your using, it's too much cheese.

If you are heating the sandwich, melted cheese quickly turns into a layer of lubrication that makes the whole thing unmanageable. Cooled down sufficiently afterwards, however, the cheese can be a glue that keeps it together.

I think with burgers a simple 1:1 ratio between patty and cheese is a safe bet. If talking regular sandwich with sliced meat 1:4 or 1:5 ratio between cheese and meat slices is a pretty safe bet. It gets complicated when talking other situations.

And someone complained about having "the dad bod" ...

You use one slice. ONE!
Use good cheese, real cheese with flavour and there is no need to use more.

I have one slice of cheese in each of my two sandwiches for lunch.  That seems enough for me - sometimes I can still taste the cheese over the other fillings.

I only go one slice for sandwiches, since that's enough to taste. Any more than that and I'll feel like a fatty.

I'd go 2 slices for grilled cheese, though, especially if I'm doing two types of cheese.

For burgers, none, since I buy them from the local deli with mozzarella and bacon already in the there and it is superb right off the grill.

3 for the sandwich, the rest of the package for snacking while making said sandwich.  No such thing as too much cheese.

It works because McDonald's cheese has clay-like properties

Americans sometimes refer to cheese and cheese-like-plastic-substances interchangeably.

I never eat "cheese food" or "cheese product".  Real cheese only.

The number of slices is proportionate to the meat. The mass of the cheese should never be more than roughly half the mass of the meat, and never less than one tenth.  Usually I can get by with 1 slice, but I buy good cheese sliced generously.  If I'm making a Dagwood then I usually double-up.

Depends what I'm putting said cheese on.

Grilled cheese sandwich = at least 3
Regular sandwich = 2
Hamburger = 2
