I live 25mi away from my work and the trip is becoming one of the most congested corridors in Northern California. I only drive when I must. I have the option to take Bart, and then a shuttle and that works very well. But the best time is has when I take my bike:MoreShow Image(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/mtdhdz5ypyynr51/2016-10-10%2007.14.38.jpg?dl=0)
I almost envy those with a decent bus situation. Over the summer, my car was getting new tires and ball joints so I had to take the bus to a night class. It took over two hours to go ~15miles including a 3 mile bike ride. On the way back I had to transfer buses and was stuck hiding behind a tree an extra 20 minutes in bad part of town where was a bunch of literal crack+methhead looking people yelling at each other under the only working streetlight.

Great picture! I visited The Bay Area a few summers ago and really enjoyed it but I don't think I could live there year-round. Your legs must be strong AF with some of those hills.
I know lots of people hate it, but the ability to lanesplit in California sounds cool.
@Tp4 What about when you run out of ramen?

3 packets of ramen per day, for 6 months is approx 540 packets of ramen
that's quite a lot
but that is like $240 for food from Amazon's prices. That is nothing. Imagine the things he could buy

i was thinking more about the physical space that would take up
perhaps they are all under his bed
20 minute cycle.Uphill then? :p
I hate and love it.
30 minute drive out of the city in my car. Most relaxing thing ever. All the traffic is going into the city while I'm going out. Never one complaint about rush hour in the morning or evening :p

My work desk is literally one step from my bed. I won this thread!
Soon it will be dark coming to work and going back home.
Goodbye sun. ;(

The dream :( Although I think I would get too distracted if I worked at home.

I'm in the same boat dude... No sun ever when on days. Vitamin D supplements are in order I think.

57 miles each way. 75-90 minute drive in the morning, 90-120 minute drive on the way home :(
Commuter options really suck here.
Friday's I work from home.

35 miles, 45 to 80 minutes, depending on how many people decide to crash into each other and stare and crashed carsAlmost identical for me. The only difference for me is the Friday afternoon commute which can bump that 80 min to 120 plus.
I have a 13.5-15 minute walk to work depending if the traffic lights are against me or not, listening to good music to drown out the traffic. I can think of few things worse than a commute of a length which varies greatly based on factors out of my control, or wasting more than 1/24th of my working week travelling even if it was smooth and consistent. Guess that's why I'm still in a crappy job...
... farting old ladies, ....
all these people "Aww boo hoo, I get to sit in a dry private car away from diseased strangers, farting old ladies, and screaming children. Boo ****in goddamn hoo."
If you drive your own car to your place of work you don't need to be complaining in this thread.
... farting old ladies, ....
Besides, I have a 20 miles ride during approx. 25 mins at ~ 70 mph. (Private car of course!)
Bus to school: 1 hour
Bus back home: 1 hour
Sometimes my friends are kind enough to give me a lift : 15 minutes

This happened to me just last Monday. I was on a near empty bus, tons of available seats. This old lady gets on and scans the bus like a buzzard scanning the desert for desiccated corpses. She starts shuffling down the aisle and instead of choosing pretty much any other seat on the bus she shoves my bag over and pins me against the window. It was around the time the bus started driving again that she just started farting furiously. At first I wasn't sure if it was the rumble of the near-nonexistent shocks on the spine destroying bacteria tube, but I quickly came to realize it was the old bag letting loose full winds. Then the smell hit me. Like stale sourdough bread and canned dog food, I nearly gagged, there was no where to go no escape. She just bared down focusing on her darning needles as she declared biological warfare on my senses.
That was just one day. An occurrence of approximate unpleasant magnitude happens at least once a week. More if the public transit gods are angry. I once saw a lady allow her daughter to take a big hot **** on the seat like it was something that she has had to do before. Just pulled down her daughter's pants and pointed at the seat. The world is a ****ed up place, and public transit is but a microcosm.
And buses are the worst. Seriously, THE WORST. Whenever I go to my parents' I walk home from the station, baggage and all, which takes about an hour rather than take the damn bus.

There's nothing wrong with Dutch buses in particular, I hate buses everywhere. All buses are maximally awful :p .

I live in Central CT and work in Stamford. So I have to drive through Bridgeport and Fairfield. First 40 miles takes about 40 minutes. The last 17/18 can take up to an hour. Can't you move closer to your work? That sort of commuting sounds like a total nightmare Oo .
It's an option, but the closer to work I get the higher the housing costs. Also making my commute better would make the wife's worse. Son's doing well at this school, daughter has a great nanny. No sense in upsetting the apple cart. Plus with my luck I'd sell my house (which I don't really want to do anyway), buy a new one closer to work, and then immediately get laid off :)
At least I don't have to deal with what noisyturtle goes through. Any farts are my own.
