My current solution is getting pretty tired.
I've come across this monitor arm
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ergotech-Freedom-Arm-PC-Silver/dp/B00CEHME92 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ergotech-Freedom-Arm-PC-Silver/dp/B00CEHME92)
I'm also looking at the 3M sit/stand tray, but under the desk there's a metal bar in the way of the track - giving me around 11 inches of room and 3M's tray seems to need 20 odd inches of room.
Any suggestions, please?

I got a duronic DM651X2 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-DM651X2-Powered-Monitor-Warranty/dp/B00OZTY0ZS) because it was a lot cheaper than the ergotech one and it works great.

Try to look at the solutions offered by the company http://www.lcdarms.com .A few years ago, I had a very specific task - choose lcd arm for a 27 inch iMac ))), find this company, in the end happily use their product for more than 5 years. I think they have a solution for any problem, sizes, types of mounts.

There's a drop going on that I've been considering on massdrop: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/ergotech-sit-stand-freedom-desk?mode=guest_open
It's a pretty big spend, but it really looks good. It's also ERGOTECH like the one in the OP.

the company Ergotron makes such stuff.
For europe its easier to buy from them, I have an ergotron LX monitor arm and love it

This is so much harder than getting a regular ol' folding desk that has the telescopic legs for $30
