I have one question. What is the purpose of having the WASD keys in a different colour? Is it for gaming? I don't game so I may be missing something. I like the red escape key though.

Yea the different color WASD keys are for gaming I don't have mine installed but I do have the red escape key installed :).

Ski11z: congrats on the new board...

Liquid cooling parts, mainly for enthusiast/gamer use, cools CPU, GPU, etc.
EK HF CPU waterblock and Aquacomputer copper reservoir:

: ) looks stout. I would need a plumber to do the install. But I don't think I am a candidate for liquid cooling.

Oh I know what you mean.. I spend way too much on keyboards to afford a computer that would need water cooling :)

For a moment there I thought you might be trying to figure out a way to turn your HHKB into a sweet bong!

Amazing purchase.  I applaud you, and everything you stand for.

BitsPower plugs too I see.
What rad are you running on that? Although my water setup is dry at the moment, I hopefully have a decent chip coming my way to warrant plumbing it in again (I have tube and hose OCD, it has to be *just* right). XSPC 120.3, XSPC Delta V2, MC Micro & Eheim 1250 on 1/2" here.

On a Keyboard related note, nice board. I still can't justify one though. I like my noisy buckling springs too much.

There's the good thing about a Pentium III. You don't need to hook up some fancy shmancy cooling system.

Ah, the PIII.  Old, but a good CPU.  I miss my all-American CPUs V_V.

They still need a fancy shmancy fan (somewhere) though, IIRC.
I remember the good old days when all CPUs needed was a heatsink, and even that was optional (remember testing systems while building, without having to worry if the CPU would self-destruct in a plume of smoke?)

I recently pulled a Pentium 3 out of a skip. Given the size of the cartridge and it's attached heatsink, I could probably beat someone to death with it.

What are you on about man? Those things have been made in either Malaysia or over here for God knows how long...

Malaysia for just about all Intel CPUs AFAIK. I haven't seen one that didn't explicitly specify so, 386 through P4.

OK, you have now convinced me you are indeed a troll.

STFU. We *know* you like old computers, and that you think that they are better than anything ever made since. We *know* you like M's and you think that they are better than any other keyboard that has or ever will be made. We KNOW this is what you think, as you say it in almost every thread, no matter how irrelevent it may be.

Welcome, once again, to my ignore list.

Such are the joys of the intertubes that you never know if someone is a bad troll, or just an idiot.

Now if only we had rules against power posting...

hey, III was a good design.

III led to M, which led to Core, you know.

saved intel's rear end from pentium 4, the chip that doubles as a space heater...

I dunno. I tend to be pretty cynical about a company thats been churning the same basic design since the 1970s, with more and more hacks throw on top of it over the years. Oh, and the way they've bullied a lot of very good competitors out of the market. In some ways, they've damaged the computer market more than Microsoft has.

well, there's always ARM. starting from scratch has its benefits :)
Title: ZOMG i got's mine!!!
Post by: ch_123 on Sun, 24 January 2010, 15:02:12
ARM is pretty much the only alternative. IBM doesn't pimp POWER enough, Alpha was sold to Intel when Compaq taught that the Itanium would outgun it, and something similar happened to MIPS when SGI adopted Itanium too.

The Itanium was surprisingly successful for Intel, not for any particular merit of the design, but rather because it forced Alpha, MIPS, PA-RISC and others out of the market.

i keep wishing someone would come out with a new clockless cpu...
:D

Post by: InSanCen on Sun, 24 January 2010, 15:28:04
Which is a shame, as Itanium sucks. I've not played with it for a while, but the original incarnation was spanked everywhere in Server-Land. I assume Itanium2 in already here, or scrapped altogether. I am more interested in AMD's Magny-Cours. 12 physical cores on a single die? yes please.

Personally, I don't care who makes my chip. I buy on performance/£. I will admit to choosing an AMD when all else is equal though. I still want competition to stick around, as we get better tech at lower prices.

Supposedly there's a quad core Itanium coming out this year with rumors of socket compatibility with Xeons. Not sure what you'd need them for.

AMD are good, but at the end of the day they're making the same stuff. Watching duels between Intel and AMD fanboys on forums often reminds of me of 'the war against Eurasia' of 1984 fame.

Well, when it gets cold in the bomb shelter, I just fire up the old Prescott and bingo. Problem solved!

It would be better for you if you ignored me from the start. I *know* you know I like old computers (I like the new ones too but I just can't afford them!). I *know* you know I like IBM Model M keyboards and compare them to other types of keyboards I have used. And I *know* you're making a mountain out of a mole-hill! Why get so worked up over someone saying something good about old computers? Don't you have anything better to do with your life?

I stop by my computers a couple of times every day and go on this forum. I'm interested in mechanical keyboards, but  I also think it's quite funny to watch people laugh at the responses of people like you. You, and a couple of others here get so worked up over some old pieces of crap sitting in my basement. That's what makes the old Pentium III so powerful.

runs to the kitchen puts popcorn to pop, grabs a soda... time to watch the sparks fly =)

all in all the yields\performance of these new multicore chips seem only to help synthetic applications. there isnt any actual "cross-talk" between cores..{ well atleast in  the quads} meh... ohwell

i be purchasing my HHKB soon... my precious... muahaha =D

It depends on the application. For 3D rendering, (which is my interest), cores are king. Horsepower really is everything. The new Magny-Cours (there's a thread teasing me on XS with a 2p board with 2 chips, 24 Physical cores running at 3Ghz) should be a very formidable render platform.
