So just cause I can, I will disprove Ripster that Cherry boards are actually available in North America.
Compunation Cherry Page (http://www.compunation.com/main.php?p_uid=L2_259&area=browse&pg=1&vname=CHERRY)
Yes, the website looks just as sketchy as Unicomp. But I bought my G81-1800LUMUS-2 from them (It did take them a while to order one in though, as they don't exactly keep any stock of them). And unfortunately you have to understand the Cherry Corp. product number system, as they only show product numbers, and no pictures :( .
Compunation is based in Ottawa (I just went and picked up the board myself to save shipping when I was living there).
As a bonus it seems they have an even larger selection now than when I last checked.
The only reason I found this company, was because I was looking for a source of mechanical switch keyboards in Ottawa. I guess I got lucky.

reminds me of a triffid!

Importing the neighbours, the triffids, or something I missed?
That supplier the OP linked to looks interesting...they seem to have all sorts of interesting goodies.
-
But what if you don't want Tako (http://462photoblog.com/picture_library/tako.jpg) switches?
I'm pretty sure I've walked past that building before (hard to miss...).

I never knew Japan was big on Mexican food!

What is the difference between G81-1800LUMUS-2 and G81-1800LUMUS-0?
-
I'm guessing the board colour. Mine (G81-1800LUMUS-2) is black, and the 0 seems to be Light Grey from the description.
The cherry corp website (http://www.cherrycorp.com/english/keyboards/Industrial/1800/index.htm) agrees with me. But who knows...
-
Unfortunately ripster, the Compunation (Cherry page 2) site lists 4 Cherry keyboards explicitly with MX switches (no info on what kind of MX switches mind you).
I'll leave the letter writing to someone else. I have a better supply in Tokyo atm.

What type of switch is in this keyboard? I don't know why I'm asking this for I know I'll never get this board. I'm so used to having my delete key just above my left arrow key.

Cherry MX Black , as explained in the Dataing Cherry Keyboards' post here on geekhack. I find the keyboards on this website to be very expensive and all of them mostly have MX Black switches :(

If it's G81, it's an MY switch, not MX.
