I've used the Matias Quiet Click switches with both the gold colored and silver colored leafs inside. Both styles are pretty quiet when pushed downward directly from the top. However, if the keys/plunger are pushed toward the top of the switch they make a very distinctive "click" or "pop" sound.
If I put a thin strip of paper between the plunger and the "front" of the housing it seems to make the plunger stay straight enough to avoid the sound. Unfortunately, this isn't a very elegant solution.
Has anyone come up with a way to stop this popping sound?

You've found the actual solution, it seems. I have done the same with other Alps switches, but it doesn't work 100% of the time.
The issue is some something that is easy to fix, as it is a problem with the way the tactile leaf is situated in the switch, and how much pressure is being applied to it. It may take a while, but it worked for me.
Be careful, though, to only put a single piece of paper in, and to have it fit as snugly as possible width-wise. Otherwise, you can bend the little wings on the tactile leaf.
Additionally, you can use some scotch tape as well (though I haven't myself). Apparently it works just as well.

Thank you. After reading your reply and researching even more, it looks like some sort of adhesive backed Teflon tape might work. Does anyone here have experience with that?
