Title: Mars Missions....
Post by: tp4tissue on Wed, 07 December 2016, 16:25:30
Here's something they haven't thought about..

If it's only going to be so few people to start the colony.. (elon Musk said a few hundred people ideally per trip)

It's going to have to be 100% attractive people....

Because otherwise you'll get the bunch of us ugly neckbeards that can't find a Wife, ON MARS.......

I'd imagine the majority would be neck beards. Attractive people got too much to live for here on earth, ain't no G6s on Mars.

This is something I've thought about as well and have reached a similar conclusion.  The biggest problem with a Mars mission is spending a few months cramped in the space ship with the same people.  They will get tired of each other real quick.  Plenty of personality matching before the trip and board games during the trip will be useful.

Then you have an indefinite time period spent on that lifeless rock with the very same people.  Even the most intelligent and accomplished people can get caught up in personal drama.  Probably should bring some of those life-like, top-end love dolls for good measure.

I'm actually completely seriously.  I believe personality conflicts and drama will be one of the greatest barriers to Mars success.

I'm not sure if all the Mars enthusiasts realize how petty human beings actually are and how much that will be a problem on a very, very, very remote place for long periods of time with the same people you can't get away from.

It's just gonna end like the Blair Witch Project, a camera on the ground as everyone screams and then it goes blank.

I always regret trying to be serious in a TP thread, but viva is right. Sort of.

Have you ever been on a long backpacking trip? Granted, wide open spaces don't compare to cramped capsule conditions, but the whole only having 40lbs of stuff total and no civilized comforts does. The issue is not boredom. You're always super busy because absolutely everything is hard. But... because things are always really hard the people you are with matter a lot. I have friends I like that I would never go on expedition with. They would drive me crazy. Finding the right group would be paramount.

Your reasoning in how I have reached my conclusion.  Before I got into keyboards, I was a bit of an outdoorsman.  I have been on long backpacking trips and spent summers in remote places with a small group of people.  Personality conflicts boiled over to the point that everyone was ready for the summer to be over (but also left with unforgettable memories).  Being able to get along with other people in the group is as important as anything else.

The lowest drama situations were small groups of people of the same sexual orientation (gender was of lesser concern).  That way, the focus was on getting things done and having a good time rather than worrying about who is attracted to who and what person is talking **** behind another person's back.

Granted, we were younger, but adults tend to carry the same immaturities into their later years.
