Title: 2017 annual budget for keyboard stuff.
Post by: ideus on Wed, 21 December 2016, 12:41:13
Do you have a budget for the keyboard hobby things for 2017? Is it approved by your wife?

I do not know you; but, I have more than enough stuff in stock now, that I should not buy anything else. But, who can resist all the good stuff coming next year?

I don't have a budget as I've been primarily a membrane rubber dome user.

Some items are coming out in 2017 to challenge that but overall I'm making progress in discerning need from want.

$10,000. It's high so I'm never over budget.

Endgame is a myth but I'm pretty happy with what I currently have (and how much I have invested in what I have). Maybe some switches, but I don't see any new boards in my future unless it really strikes my fancy.

So budget of about $100 for switches and that's it.

Pretty endgame for me, with just a Realforce and a SSK and a HHKB. But... Still I need a black Topre keycap set or just a second RF, a small 40% bluetooth keyboard, or a bluetooth HHKB. Anyhow, I set my budget to $400.

Spent something like 5k + the last 6 months.

Thinks I should tone it down this year, cut it to 3k  :p

You could've leased it or setup a ponzi scheme borrowing against it.

Well I could either match what I spent on keyboards this year for next year or spend it on multiple copies of You Need a Budget software on Steam.

Haven't set a budget but it's limited at the moment depending on when I can land a full time position.

I've tentatively set a budget of about $800, which is way less than I spent in 2016. Hoping that a mixture of the fact that I want to work on a Topre endgame, that I can sell some of my old stuff, and that one of my new year's resolutions is to be more of a maker myself will all help offset my costs.

You know what's out of my budget for 2017?

Artisans. I have far too many, the market's saturated, and I rarely use 'em. I'm done with artisans this year.

Thus far I have fueled my hobby with Paypal Credit and repaying it with Birthday and Christmas money.. Pretty stupid. haha I have Re-sold enough artisans to make a little more money to buy more stuff. I need to figure out a budget for sure...

Same. Today I traded for the 2 that I wanted the most and recently sold the rest. Have enough for my key sets so I am going to try and take it easy.

I try to limit my keyboard expenses around 70$ a month, sometimes I don't spend that money so it slides to the next month budget. I know that this is ridiculous compared to what other people around here spend....
Now I have pretty much what I wanted, so except for some WoB Icon mods and maybe a Gumrot Ogre at a decent price I really don't look for more.

It's pretty much 0 to be honest. I need to build a new PC, but I really can't afford to buy anything keyboard related. I already have GMK Hydro and a load of Zeal stuff in the pipeline to finish my Lightsaver but other than that I'm after nothing.

I need to sell a load of **** though.

I hit my "endgame" a long time ago, so I'm hoping to net out even for the year selling things to buy other things.

Let's see...

For keyboards;

A planck or atreus ~ 150$
A topre board ~ 250$
Maybe a %60 (depends on how I like %40) ~ 150$

So it looks like 550$

For artisans;

One may never know if one day I will be lucky in artisan sales but let's say 100$ here.

Damn, I need to sell some wet shaving gear. That mighty hammer of thor PILS better buy me a keyboard...

Currently trying to tone it down to €40 a month compared to this year.

I don't really need much and I find that I enjoy photographing artisans more than actually owning them.
This year I had a project (Weaven) but that is slowing down right now.

I try to work towards a monthly budget. Almost all of my keyboard related expenses go onto my CC and will be charged to my bank account at the end of the month. Some months get out of control, I blame the Koreans ...

Is it approved by your wife?

LOL!  :p

I do not know you; but, I have more than enough stuff in stock now, that I should not buy anything else. But, who can resist all the good stuff coming next year?

Yes that's the problem. Every time I think I've got it all ... some new custom kit comes up or an awesome GMK color scheme or an amazing SA drop/GB appears out of nothing! STAHP IT!!!

A budget is to put your plans in terms of money. It is actually a summary of what do you want to have accomplished.

This is like reddit..   PROBABLY not the best place to get Financial advice..

Not saying there may not be good general features...  but... This is the internet afterall...  No one here is a referenced source..

It could just be some guy living in his basement telling people to buy mutual funds..

My budget is shifting from board consumption to creation. (Not just keyboards.) I'm buying a milling machine and a lathe, and doing my own CNC conversion.

So that's my discretionary budget for the foreseeable future - factoring in everything that goes in to this, well, I'm fortunate that I don't need a car.

Can't have a budget.  That would mean that I had spent money on all those keyboards, and simple multiplication would result in a horrible realization.

So, no budget, just a comparison of how cool something is versus the keyboards I have but don't use.

It would be nice to avoid losing money on my own group buys for a change.

Exactly, only children and tight spinster's have a budget.  Real men don't know the meaning of the word, it's too effeminate to even worry about money and what to spend it on.

The Mrs takes care of the worrying, after all it's her domain and you can't beat them when it comes to concerning yourself on where and what to buy.

I have to ask my wife to make a budget for keyboard related expenditures?... Yeah sure, she will come with a zero-base budget in a second, LOL.

My house need a new fence at the front, I will probably should sell some things that I do not use much.

2017 will probably be the year I spend the least amount of money on keyboards.
Tons of stuff have happened in 2016 that changed my whole financial situation. Not for the worse mind you, just changed. Different priorities.
