Title: Is gh on them VR ?
Post by: tp4tissue on Sat, 24 December 2016, 17:03:18
Got in on the brakfriday free gear vr..

Been using for 2 days now..

My xperience,,

_____It has to be lighter.. WAY WAY lighter..    gearvr + fone is 1lb.. + force of straps, feels like a brick tied to one's face after 20 minutes..

Any tips on using vr ? (http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/onion-head/confused-onion-head-emoticon.gif?1292862495)

Wait until it gets lighter?

I'll wait until PC VR is much smaller and lighter. That's assuming I get on board at all. I really don't think I'll enjoy it that much except for the initial "this is kind of neat" factor.

I dunno. To be honest, the Oculus doesn't feel that heavy when you wear it and get into it.

But I would wait until it needs less than two GPUs to power it at high performance.

I haven't tried one yet so I can only assume. It's good to hear that it isn't too heavy feeling. But it still looks a bit bulky and in need of some refinement. I'll wait until gen 2 or gen 3 before even considering it. It's far too new to drop close to $1k CAD on and then another $1k+ on appropriate GPUs.

I think it really needs to get to 8k res before we can use this type of tech through the lens..

Because most of your visual acuity is in the center,  and yet, through the VR lens, the center has the least pixels, because of how it bowls outward..

THere is a way to hook up Gear vr to my PC,  graphics will be way better..

Buuuuuuhhhhhh...

There's so much work involved... I'm a little hesitant, because I see the resolution as a bottleneck to immersion..

Has anyone tried mounting this to a helmet ?

I feel like it would probably be much more comfortable mounted to a helmet, because that way perhaps it wouldn't have to be so tight around the eye socket..

I wear prescription glasses all day and can't do contacts because my eyes already get too dry when I'm Not even staring at a screen. I have one of the phone VR headsets and it's awfully painful pressing my glasses into my face. Not to mention the lenses in the headset rub against my glasses and that will only wind up damaging both. How is the oculus or vive for people who absolutely need glasses?

i've tried only the oculus and this gearvr i have now.

Depending on how far your glasses protrude from your face,  it may or may not touch the frontend..

My old pair of glasses can be worn with gearvr without the lenses touching, but the nose bridge part is touching..

My thick frame glasses (Sifo glasses) cannot be worn without the lens touching.

With contacts, it works much better..

If your eyes are dry, try acuvue oasys w/hydraclear ,  they last the longest in terms of --not drying--..

Try a few different lens solutions too..  I can't use Opti-Free,  it hurts my eyes,  but I can use the generic store brands just fine..

I've been meaning to try contacts again. It's been a long time since I've given them a shot. Glasses are really pissing my OCD off

A good trick is,  Soaking 5 pairs simultaneously.. So that each pair is soaked for 5 days through the rotation.

That way, they feel softer when you put them on vs merely an overnight soak of the same pair as you wore yesterday.

They got good deals on acuvue from canada online stores,

Don't buy the lenses from ur optometrist,  he's trying to rip you off..

Ur insurance will usually reimburse you from any seller, especially if it's cheaper..

What you want to do is,  go in for the regular appointment to get ur contact prescriptions.

ALTHOUGH,  to be honest,  unless you got some weird compensation issue with ur eyes,

Just getting spherical lenses that match ur glasses perscription is fine.

Only issue is if you've got severe astigmatism.. not likely.. if it's just a little off, you don't really even need that compensation.

No, I'll just get the paper with my new prescription details so I can order online.
