What you want is the func surface 1030 archetype but if you want to get really fancy then take a look at the icemat.

Well I have around 20-25 mousepads and the best by far is the puretrak talent http://www.puretrak.com/

If you are American then this is twice the reason to get one as the biggest expense for me was the $15 shipping.

Ratpadz Xt is great, hard plastic pad that tracks perfectly with my G9X.

I like Ratpadz, because the stiff plastic has 101 uses after the surface texture is worn out.
...and on.

I'm going MS Windows on this post and suggesting a cheap-ass fabric mousepad.  I have tried a lot of them in my lifetime, but I keep coming back to the ole faithful.  Personally, I prefer the thinner ones, myself.

They can make the difference with a gamer mouse - the fabric can cause friction with the mouse and this slows it down. a good surface makes it easier to move the mouse around quickly.

Now, for 2x MS Windows points, you need to tell the OP that he needs one of these -

I use an Allsop Metal Art. Heavy, doesn't move, and my Daughter hasn't yet got to the stage where she can bend metal.

I know some gamers that like it, others that don't. YMMV.

Being in the UK, you can pick it up at Maplin's or The Evil Purple Place (PCW).

So I get the extra points, I think the OP needs an original Microsoft bus mouse.

:D

I say get a desk (or, more cost effectively, put a coating on the existing one) that is suitable for the sensor and skip the pad altogether.

The fabric mouse pads work well in many computing setups. They can last a very long time if well-taken care of (In other words, if they're not in a school where children have the urge to peel the fabric off).

One problem with the fabric mouse pads is they collect a lot of dust and may have to go through the washing-machine from time to time if you don't want to clean the rollers in your mouse.

no mousepad is best. now you can use your mouse anywhere on your desk. even better if your mouse wireless.

save your money, mousepads are a sham.

I tried that for a few monthes, then my desk began to show signs of wear and the feet of my mouse were gone.
Usually not a good option. Unless you've got a glass surface, but then most laser or optical mice won't work.

Why not start by looking here (XS-Reviews) (http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/reviews/mouse-mats)? It's a UK based website and they cover all kinds of mouse mats.

I myself have a Roccat Taito (http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gaming-Mousepads/ROCCAT-Taito/), which is large, soft and has unintrusive design. And for €15,- not that expensive. But it depends wether you like soft or hard pads.

I got the SteelSeries QcK 12.6x10.6 inch (some places call it the SteelSeries  gaminG ?). Got sent it cheap as part of a deal, would never have spent the money on it otherwise ...but its been great, I am moving my desk/re-building my computer/swerver room.
So I am on a small desk type thing without a lot of room but this mat dont seem to care if there are a few lumps and bumps as the mouse cant see them.

Dont think I will ever go back to a cheapo mat now

IMO glass would not work because of the hand sweating and sticking to the surface. I personally would not like such a surface, even if the tracking would be perfect -- I tend to regard the mousepad more of an ergonomic thing then something to improve mouse tracking.

I personally needed a solid mousepad because I lan often and it's nice to have control over the mouse surface regardless of where it is.

I use my TrackPoint L40 for mobile computing, and it tracks on virtually any surface. It even got good tracking on my dog.

I do use mouse pads on my desks though and they do improve mouse tracking.

I have an Icemat and that I have always enjoyed its feel. If you live somewhere that's humid and/or somewhere you keep the windows open and sweat in the summer, it is perhaps not for you.

Ignore exia's post regarding (noun).  Again, exia is in his usual state of sarcasm, trying to (verb) yet another thread.  None of exia's (noun) are ever (noun), and unlike (another geekhack user)'s trolling, they are not amusing or quite as colorful.

In case of further posts by exia, just copy any paste this reply, enter in your own nouns, save ya some time.

I like cloth pads. Used a cheap one for many years and I switched to a Razer mantis control (my mouse is a mx300). It's much smoother and it doesn't get as dirty as others.
