Title: How to safely stain/dye plastic case?

I have read somewhere that soaking plastic in tea and/or coffee could achieve a vintage/aged look in white plastic. Has anyone tried this? Does it wear off easily? I intended to have my cheap 60% case stained this way to match my keys.
