Title: GON MX spring confusion
Post by: RSSonic92 on Sat, 07 January 2017, 19:21:30
Hi,

I want to build an ergo clear board and have already ordered the MX Clears. However I do not find MX Browns at a reasonable price including shipping. So I am leaning towards buying GON springs.
I have already tried ergo clears with MX Brown springs and found the result to be spot on. So which of these springs comes closest to the feel of an MX Brown spring inside an MX Clear switch?

http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/others/120-switch-springs-by-gon.html
55g, 58.5g or 62g?

It isn't really clear if actuation or bottom out force is meant from the description.
Can anyone share experiences please?

I wouldn't buy from GON

Perhaps try https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/ or https://www.originativeco.com/collections/accessories

As for the weights, I haven't used that setup so I can't really comment on it...

Usually 62g is recommended for ergo clears. But this is mainly going to up to you and what you like. When I did the mod, I used 62g though and enjoyed them.

I would not use MX Brown springs unless you're going to lube because MX Clears can slightly stick with springs that are too light. Use 62g+ springs.

MX Browns bottom out force is around 60g.

But why not? Are these springs technically inferior or has it to do something with shipping?
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your help and experience, buying SPRiT branded springs kinda might hurt my pride considering he owes me a lot, though.

GON is the same as SPRiT, so shipping.

Thank you, xondat! I didn't know SPRiT had such a monopoly on MX springs...
