Dang.. 1954.. these older movies have quite a large vocabulary in their dialogue..  (http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/onion-head/embarrassed2-onion-head-emoticon.gif?1292862502)

The modern day films are probably designed for the younger audience in mind.

Young or just dumb?  One word that's frequently forgotten is 'than' which I'd consider pretty fundamental, you have to question the parents/teachers for failing to teach so it's not a young people thing.

Ironic really given that young people claim to talk almost exclusively in similies while not doing so at all.

Well, certain grammatical rules are NON essential..  So their erosion is a natural process..  For things like then than, it's mostly unnecessary in our day to day.

And a second part of this process is the increase in General information a person needs to function in modern society..

So back then,  you'd have more room and more need for precise language,  but today, the precision can be reduced because we have electronic organization, but other requirements are increased. Such as, one needs to know how to type, interact with cellphones UIs.. to understand why fanny packs are not cool..There will then be a give and take on what information MUST be learned, and what can Passively pass..
