I was browsing Amazon the other day, and found a couple of thumb-operated trackballs under the Perixx brand, namely Perimice 517 (wired; link (https://www.amazon.com/Perixx-PERIMICE-517-Wired-Ergonomic-Trackabll/dp/B01EV02HP0)) and 717 (wireless; link (https://www.amazon.com/Perixx-PERIMICE-717-Wireless-Programmable-Trackabll/dp/B01EV02RNM)). Ratings look mediocre, but has anyone around here used one of these?
Specification:
- right-handed, thumb-operated trackball
- 34mm ball
- optical tracking, 1000/1600/2000 dpi steps
- 7 buttons, incl. wheel
- USB/wireless (w/ proprietary nano receiver) depending on model
- dimensions: 130×107×45 mm
There's only a brief mention at Perixx' website (http://www.perixx.com/en/products/perixx-pro-10.html).

That case design looks very "Mionix-y". It looks like it would be very comfortable to use.

The shape looks like something between Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel and Elecom M-XT*, and it's about the same size, thus there probably isn't enough support for a large palm (not to the same extent as MS Trackball Optical anyway). Could be a nice modern alternative.
I'm mainly concerned with reliability and/or smoothness.
