I'm at the point where I don't think they even care about selling a "membership"...checking id cards at the entrance to see if you're in the cool club..gtfo.
Your brain thinks because you pay for a membership card, you're obligated to spend money there and the deals aren't dramatically better than a lot of other stores. You're paying for their return policy and $2 hotdogs.
Costco is the largest hustler NA, prove me wrong.

And here I was thinking you had that title.

Tp4 has made a profit on the Rotisserie chicken alone..
If you buy their mixed nuts and electronics, the discount's probably not worth it... But as long as you eat the chicken.. it very quickly breaks even.

It's such a chore going through that place, I'd rather just spend more money at the local store and get back home where I'm safe behind my broadband Internets. :D

Costco opened up a store really close to me, so I'm only 15 minutes away now.. I've also gained weight because of it.

I've gotta agree. I have a membership and there are times where it comes in handy for buying large amounts of certain products and for the gas discount. But you've gotta buy a lot in a year to offset the cost of the membership.
They have some good quality stuff that I enjoy, especially the meat. But overall they're definitely reeling in the money

I can't agree Costco is a bad deal. I have the Executive membership so I get 2% back on most stuff at the end of the year.
I drive a truck so the gas discount is worth it alone, and I see various other savings fairly easily.
OMG....I'm a Costco fanboy!

Do you have a large family? IMO that Costco demographic, not really the bachelor.

You're paying for their return policy and $2 hotdogs.
You don't need a membership for the food court, or to buy alchohol or use their pharmacy (this varies by state though).
If the food court is indoors, just tell the ID check person you're there for the food court and they let you by. If you're buying booze, you need to go to the customer service desk to sign in and get a temporary pass that allows you to only buy booze.
But other than that, I agree with RELLIK in that the savings are there if you have a moderate to large family but not so much for the singles or couples without kids.

we've been to Costco like three times since we've gotten our membership for our apartment, and we've probably saved $400 just in steaks alone
buy the slab o meat and cut/seal it up yourself, get bigger steaks for 25-50% less than you'd pay at any retail grocery store for the same cut

Very True, trying my hand at dry-aging a huge steak in the near future. Also, my dogs love Costco brand dog food.

And they keep feeding me while I walk around and throw more things in my cart.. Here, stay longer and eat free snacks and grab some tostitos and bean dip that you had no intention of buying when you walked in. And I do it..
Then I come home with 5lbs of bean dip and way more beer than I should've bought because "hey look I can get a 36 pack for the price of a 30 pack"...now I'm buying freezer bags and a vacuum sealer just to freeze all the extra meat...now my freezer is full so I'm buying another freezer.. That value pack of $45 ribeye's just turned into a $380 cluster.. where does this all stop?? ;D

Exactly! If you're homeless and not making Costco at least 1/3 of your day...you're not doing homelessness right! (too far?)

I'm a bachelor, but I've gotten what I consider to be solid savings on things I buy.
Some stuff I can remember I've purchased since last fall:
4 sets of organic cotton Cal king bed sheets/pillow cases @ $25 each. Good quality. At least half the cost as online.
2 Snap-On LED portable work lights $25 instead of $44 online.
An LED ceiling fixture light for $27 on Costco sale. Anything comparable is $100+
Non-perishable can foods, cereal, protein drink, etc. much less than even discount grocery stores.
Fuel is .20 gallon less than anywhere else. I save $5 on every fill up weekly.
Over the counter meds, personals, toilet paper, misc. plenty cheaper.
Occasionally there's the need to get some large quantity of something and it comes in handy.
There's something for most people there. I'd be surprised if someone couldn't get value by shopping at Costco. That being said, it's just an option. It's good to have options.
