LEGO usually is overpriced to begin with, though.
A friend turned me on to Brick Mania, pretty sweet stuff if you're a military/history buff. They're located close, I'm going to have to check it out.

I had a few LEGO sets as a kid, but they never really did it for me. The blocky pieces seemed too restrictive. As a kid, and even as an adult, I preferred things that could be as articulated as possible. (Maybe why I liked GI Joes so much.)
I had some K'Nex sets which I used to make my own action figures; was a blast.
But I acquired my second LEGO set in the past twenty years recently and I must say I am very impressed. Blocky they still are, but I was fascinated at how it all came together under my hands and how the pieces interacted with each other in the final result. Might have to pick up another set...
I have the same issue, but when i didi break them out i left them out on the table for a week or so. technic is really fun.
If you want kids to be able to flourish with lego, the quantity of parts necessary would be cost prohibitive for most parents given what lego currently charges for their sets...
Lego and video games are the majority of toys now a days. Lego being a single company could definitely implement more education programs

Cypickle is very derogatory in my native language. Have you considered how that would make me--a historically inaccurate, non-bipedal, fe/xemale velociraptor--feel?
