Title: How often do you have to relube? (HHKB)
Post by: Geroximo on Mon, 13 February 2017, 18:52:06
Hey,
I recently lubed my Type-S and it felt amazing!
Now that I've been using it for a week, I feel like the lube has worn off almost completly.
I'm not sure whether this is normal or if I used the wrong lubricant ...
What are your experiences with lubed HHKBs? Do you need to relube? Which lube did you use?
Your input would be appreciated.

Cheers

What lube did you use and where did you put the lube?

I used universal silicone grease which I had laying around on the following spots:

I am also interested in this question, I lubed mine last night with Techkeys thin lube. Just the rails.

I have always used a medium to thick krytox mix on those same areas and it lasted so long as I didn't remove the sliders and handle them a lot.

I'm not at all familiar with silicone grease but I would be careful with using just any lube.

If you're relatively clean and don't **** with it, probably never

by relatively clean, did u mean in a dust-less environment?

I have never needed to re-lube my topre boards. I prefer only the lightest coating of krytox grease/oil mix- just enough to make it slick but not change the friction. If you overlube, it will feel soft and silent but then quickly wear into the non-contact points and you'll feel like you dont have lube anymore.

Thats just my thoughts on the whole "lube wears off" thing people talk about with MX switches a lot.

No, I mean not eating at the computer (and the like).
