I don't understand why people want --The latest Android-- OS all the time.
Like in these reviews, they're always like, oh xx company, they're not going to update their fone to the latest android for a year..
But, why's that a problem, ever since 5.0, that wifi-on issue killed battery life of 30-40% of the devices out there reducing screen on time to 2hrs for many people..
NOT releasing the latest android is a blessing in disguise.. there's alot of problems with the patching process

Oh, crap. That reminds me: gotta update my phone. Been postponing it.
Thanks, tp!

If we're just talking mere cosmetic/etc changes then it would mostly come down to people liking to have the latest bells and whistles when they're buying a new phone.

it's like they release new android versions before the current version is stabilised. i don't find too many major differences between each of the releases
i'm running a relatively polished release of lollipop atm

But.. but.. Split screens on shield?...

I had this issue with my Nexus 6P, after the update to Nougat I had massive drain and the phone would shut off at 20%. RMA'd the device and the new one has been going strong - clearly it was partly an old battery issue but there was a software issue that was aggravating it and certainly the cause for it shutting down early.
The worrying thing with this recent news is that it's not even a big system update, merely a patch which includes security fixes, that has been causing battery problems.

Security fixes!
Several old Android versions (still shipping on some phones) have nasty security issues. That, combined with the inability (or very delayed) to upgrade that's still unfortunately common, leaves you with a tempting, shiny little box to put all your secrets in, and an easy way for them to be stolen.

They update it every 6 months so they can install the latest spyware on your phone so they can keep track of you wherever you go and listen to everything you do.

I have a 6P with the newest version of Nougat (7.1.1), I haven't noticed much change in battery life yet (if anything it might be lasting longer). The only changes I've seen are aesthetic things that I never really cared about to begin with and some added shortcuts.
