That Unicomp would make a Model M patterned after the SSK?
I love my Unicomp Spacesaver M, but I also love the space savings gained by the TKL layout.

April 1, guaranteed release.

Yeah, I know. But I can dream, can't I? :)

That would actually be a nice product. Aren't april fools jokes supposed to be funny?

Pointless..!!
SSK is a waste of time...
The only logical next step is SPLIT + 55 Degrees tenting..

You and every other BS user on this site
-
Nope, not the only one.
-
If Ellipse isn't found in a corner sucking his thumb by time the F62/F77 GB is complete perhaps he can be coaxed into coming out with a F SSK.
-
I definitely want a modern F board. If I could afford it, my order would already be in, no matter how long they take to deliver. :)

Yes, that's exactly what I was referring to. Hence the "if I could afford it." :)

Pretty sure this was a wish long before you were into keebs.

Don't be so sure about that -- my first TKL experience WAS the IBM SSK, in a lab full of IBM PS/2 Model 25's in high school. Been into keyboards a LONG time. ;)

Like I said...

I am not sure if everyone here knows it but why is the reason they have never made a Unicomp SSK version yet? Lazy or other rights issues? I am sure it would sell plenty...

I don't know the reason, but one would think it would be easy for them to chop off the tenkey.
But stubbornness is not unheard of. They make a rubber dome model. I've heard they're pretty good (at least as far as rubber domes go), but they stubbornly only make them in a classic 101 layout. I don't see why they don't offer them in a standard 104 layout, even as a paid custom-build upgrade option.
I personally won't hold my breath for any new Unicomp products. But that's just me.

They've been threatening it for like a decade now.
-
That's definitely the most appropriate verb. Thanks for the chuckle.

They don't pay to write for nothing. You're welcome.

That just comes off as mean and spiteful.

I actually believed their threats a few years back. But nothing happened. Then more rumours. Then an April Fool's. Then more rumours.
Still waiting.
Using one IBM and one Lexmark SSK during the meanwhile.
Hey, tp43, what about an Ergo Dox with buckling spring switches?

How many of your posts are you typing ergodox? :D

Would like to know this myself. Maybe they are purists that believe the two should be separate. :p

Yes you are. Unicomps are lame. I wish they would sell the rights to someone else who makes quality boards.

They're made in the same factory by the same people using the same tools as IBM's. The plates have gotten a little bit thinner, and the moulds are starting to wear a bit, but it's the same nonetheless.

I've heard rumors that none of the original employees are still at Unicomp.

That might well be possible. In all fairness, it really doesn't matter. There are two very clear things with these: they're real Model Ms, and the quality has dropped slightly over time (this has been the case with every keyboard manufacturer ever basically).
