Does anyone know where to currently purchase trays, cases, or holders for keycap sets? I'm sure I've searched google results and either come up with the wrong type of item or "out of stock" results. Help me GH you're my only hope.

Maybe contact Sheryton to see when these (https://www.originativeco.com/products/keycap-tray) are going to be back in stock. You also might be able to find some on alibaba.
+1 for Star Wars reference.

Yea, the only places that carry them are out of stock, the new GMK ones Originative carries are good. Elitekeyboards carries a different style that is used by Leopold but they've been out of stock, "estimated restock soon" for like a year. Alibaba has cardboard ones IIRC, but without ordering from China on Alibaba/Taobao and waiting 4weeks for shipping your pretty much out of luck at the moment.
Side note, I just remembered Vortex teased some around ~6months ago, and I'm wondering if they are ever going to release them.

Oh yea, I completely forgot about the ones Vortex teased. Hopefully they release them soon!

I'm contemplating making some by hand out of customizable foam and medium clear plastic containers.
P.S. I have a completely healthy addiction to Star Wars, I'm only missing 4 comics and 1 book

Happen to have a link or picture of the ones teased? Found a thread on Reddit from like a year ago but no-go on pictures.
edit: found pictures (https://www.facebook.com/Vortexgear/posts/919234858144225)

Update: According to Originative in an email response to me about the keycap trays they have: "...These will be back around May time."

I can get some of these in for stock if you'd like one? I think they are around £15 plus shipping.

Hey guys, I wanted to bump this thread because I'm looking for something sort of similar. Where can I either buy, or download the template to print, a "keycap sorting mat"? It's just a life size piece of paper, with marked outlines of each key location. Then you can put all the key caps from a set on it in their appropriate locations, to check that everything is there? I've seen pictures of these long ago, but I can't find them, because I don't know what the official name is!
Sorry if this is so obvious I missed it.

If anyone is looking for a good artisan case, I'd recommend a "Hauteware" off taobao. They have listings for smoked (https://world.taobao.com/item/523047226756.htm#detail) and transparent blue (https://world.taobao.com/item/523863087812.htm#detail). I'd seen people post pictures of them here and there, but never knew how to find one myself. I stumbled across it by chance one day and ordered 1 of the smoked ones via superbuy. The shipping to the US cost as much as the item itself, about $17, which I had not been expecting. C'est la vie, I thought.
However when I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I had gotten an extra one (completely transparent, which is not listed on taobao for whatever reason) for free. So it was like I really paid for two, with free shipping. YMMV with this though.
PROS:
- Made of nice thick acrylic
- Lid holds firmly with a friction fit; can turn upside down without **** falling out
- Depth seems good. The tallest cap I own is an otter and there's about 1-1.5cm of clearance left over.
- Good QC, arrived with no scratches and all edges are finished well
CONS:
- Fingerprint magnet and needs to be cleaned each time for cap photography
Otherwise I'm very happy with them.
EDIT: apparently they sell this monstrosity (https://world.taobao.com/item/527098507938.htm?fromSite=main) as well, for all the ballaz out there

Alibaba or taobao.

You can try sentraq's keycap holder. I just released a review of it on my channel

That was a good and thorough review. Having stems that fit so tightly, though, would make me nervous about later finding the caps have been "stretched out" and are too loose on an actual keyboard with a smaller stem. Hmm. I guess it depends on the whether the holder's material or cap material is tougher.

That is a question I do not want to have to find out lol!
In reality though I think heat would need to be introduced to stretch the keycaps as you described.
