Title: Smooth ABS Doubleshot DSA keycap sets?
Post by: 00zeRO on Tue, 28 February 2017, 22:23:31
Is this a thing? I know that SP can make DSA smooth as SA, but are there any sets which exist in this smoothness?

Deep Space looks to be like this, but is it really?

Evidently, Deep Space DSA is Doubleshot: http://pimpmykeyboard.com/dsa-deep-space-keycap-set/

I would think that DSA is too short for that but evidently not. Still, I think that's not going to be super common considering people's wants leaning toward PBT these days.

From what I have heard, the texture of a keycap is part of the mold and not part of a finishing process.

So changing the texture of a keycap requires creating all new molds - probably the expensive "outer" molds in the doubleshot process.

Not true. SP defaults to texture unless a person asks for otherwise. I was just wonder which sets are not textured

Correct, because it is cheaper and simpler that way.
Surface treatment (smoothing or texturing) adds another process(es), tool(s), and failure rate making the cost higher. Hence, making it as "why bother if you can make it simpler?"

Because its squattier and can feel like SA

No color choice but Filco makes a nice set. They are very smooth and have a bit of a 1990's look. They are not black/white but instead brown/ivory (https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2076).

Yisss...I have a set. I love it.

The conversation at hand is about DSA profile and smooth sets in it. I can only think of Deep Space, but I don't really like the colorways in it. So, I posed the question as to whether there may be others out there I don't know about.

Not that I'm aware of.

Deep Space is double-shot but the texture is matte, just like Dolch, Eve, etc.
