Hi there,
I've ordered a Steelseries 6gv2 mx blacks today(there was a huge discount)..
Owning Filco Browns and Blues(both TKL) for years now and i've been wondering about linear switches..
Someone told me that i made a mistake and Steelseries would feel cheap after Filco's..I can cancel my order..or should i? I'm confused
What should i do :) ?

Nah its fine if you got it cheap and want to try linears. I used 6gv2 daily for a while and it was quite solid. Only issue was the keycaps were bad and should be changed with decent ones.
EDIT : I forgot to say that the layout is a bit weird so finding keycaps may be a bit of an issue.
-
Yeah I was gonna say, build quality is not bad but the biggest issue is keycaps.
It has shorter right shift and weird enter, so swapping keycaps will be impossible.
If you think you'll never change keycaps and also the short right shift won't bug you (I use right shift a lot so it will drive me nuts), then in that case keep it.
Otherwise I wouldn't bother with the headache in the long run. :P

Once in a while you can get PBT keycaps for the 6gv2 on TaoBao. I can't speak for the quality but they are out there.

You can try this set when it gets back in stock (Note this is different from the older 104 keyset, as this has multiple layouts for the bottom row):

i remember mx black being the premiere G4m3r switch..
Then it changed to blue, then red, then green, then clear, then back to red...
Pretty bull****.. we gamers are fkn' stupid. hahahahahhahaha
-
Oh, just found out that 7g has a normal size right shift :P damn..
-
I've got one in a box(MX Red version) and as others have said build quality is okay, heavy and sturdy enough case, just the keycaps are a pain if you want new ones ever.
Mine was my first ever mechanical keyboard back whenever, it's not a bad keyboard and if the price was nice its not a bad deal if you want to get a feel for linears.

Gotta keep those sales up!

6Gv2 was the staple gaming keyboard for a while. Good choice.

If you ever want to try Vintage Cherry Mx Blacks, let me know. I've got a few keyboards from 1983 that I can desolder.

If there was a "huge discount," and you're really just looking to give linears a shot, I wouldn't cancel. The 6Gv2 was one of my first boards when I was trying out various switches, and I wouldn't describe the build quality "cheap." I'll second what has been said here about keycaps, which is one of the reasons I gave mine up so quickly (that plus I found blacks too heavy and the 6Gv2 would be my last full size board)—the caps are thinnish ABS with legends that quickly dirty (my ASD keys started discolouring after a week or so ).
All that said, the board is heavier than my dog (see profile pic), which isn't necessarily an indication of build quality, but it doesn't feel cheap. I didn't have any issues with chatter or anything, so again, I think it would be a good board to test out linears. You might have a hard time reselling via GH or other specialist mech communities, but I got what I paid for mine by selling locally through online classifieds (just advertise it as a PR0G4M3R keyboard and someone is sure to bite).

But they have short left shift. Yupe not even joking.
6GV2 - Short right shift.
7G - Short left shift.
I gave up on Steelseries. :P

You're going to get some negative feedback here, as SS's non-standard bottom row prevents replacing the caps with something fancier.
There's also the fact that SS, in a very unusual move, made the left Windows key a hard-wired Fn key instead. (If you're interested, here's a hack (http://www.overclock.net/t/1015241/steelseries-6gv2-remap-media-button) to fix it.)
That said, I have a 6gv2, and love it. Build-wise, it's no way inferior to Filco or any other brand—it is one solid board, and impressively compact.
Because its quirks have caused it to be sold at such a low price, IMHO it's a bargain way to have a top-quality board with MX Blacks at your fingertips. Hope you enjoy it.

After using for a couple of days..I think i like this keyboard and black switches more than my browns..or blues..
Cons are..keyboard pings like Filco's..using mousepad under the keyboard helps a little bit..
Right shift will take some time to get use to(what where you thinking steelseries!?)
Also, have to find a way to remove the steelseries logo on the keyboard :)
Since i liked black switches so much....i wonder how reds would feel like.. :D

Steelseries is trash..

What makes you say that if i may ask?
