Title: [IC] GMK dip: the semi-symmetrical, neon-colored keycap set
Post by: apolotary on Sun, 19 March 2017, 10:56:50
Vote for the set on keycap set design competition here (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScK1VImDVVK4YYJmfnooelw9_El-osY7ZCvgYZba2ZHy0PD-Q/viewform)

I recently stumbled upon a color scheme I really like and I really want to see it in a form of a keycap set :)

It uses the default GMK colors:

and here's a bit more info on where I found this color scheme in the first place:

The product that inspired me in the first place. I'm a big fan of combinations of pink and blue, but I haven't seen a keycap set that would use both in combination with white yet.

I find it also interesting to see how the symmetry in mods could play out similarly to nintendo switch controls.

The color scheme also coincides with colors of D.Va, which gives us some ideas for novelties in the nearest future :)

Let me know what you think :)

It's definitely an interesting colour scheme for sure, but for me, I think it would be a bit too "unsettled". Additionally, that certain something is missing, at least for me.

Perhaps uniform alphas could work better, I might look into it

I think I'd prefer to have unicoloured blue modifiers with red accents tbh. But maybe that's just me.

You gave it 30 minutes on a slow day?

The split isn't for me.

It is cool, I like the idea. However I'm being very very picky for sets I would buy these days :)

When you mention the switch, makes me think it should be black with half bright blue and half neon red!

Got 15 downvotes on reddit by that time, so yeah :(

that could work too, but I'm partial to white color scheme for now

Not my kind but your ISO shift should be blue anyway.
Splitting the F5-F8 cluster too would be better in my opinion and, lastly, a render would help a lot.

EDIT: Inverted Enter key colour for accent too maybe.

Gimme gimme! I like vibrant sets. :thumb:

I think the alphas might feel more balanced if the '7&' was blue and the 'B' was magenta. The alpha split should perhaps actually match the physical split of some two-part keyboards.

I'm interested, feel like I need some renders to get a real feel of the colours though. As has been said previously I think maybe the red of the switch could work nicely.

Too Flickr for. I've seen this color combo on the web many a times. Still, it'd make a decent set.

I think the idea's really cool, actually. Would need to see some renders to actually gauge how it'd potentially look on a board so that one can evaluate practicality, I feel like it's one of those things you'd kinda just need to actually see to see whether or not it'd work.

Again, idea's pretty clever though and I personally like the colours very much.

It's a cool/unique idea for sure, all the alphas being the same might make it less busy looking, but renders would help for sure.

I like the color combo. Very interesting. However using this color combo for that application (keyset) require special treatment. In my opinion the color placement (colorway) needs to be reworked. But that is only my opinion...

I think having one color on the alphas would definitely work better than the two. Also, I really think I'd need some renders to get a clear idea of how this would really turn out if produced. Either way, good luck!

Can you make the alpha color separation "compatible" with split keyboards (magenta left hand and blue right hand)?

Already did, it's just the render was made after an older scheme, the newer one looks like this

I like this a lot. Is there any way to add a few more 1.25 modifiers on R4? I have a 60% board and I could benefit from either 1.25u novelties or blanks. Maybe two more of both pink and blue?

Again, the ISO shift goes on the left. It has to be inverted colours.

Do you already have renders? I'd love to see how it looks on different keyboards. The more I see it, the more I like the idea of that set.

We'll get a separate novelty pack later with 1.25u keys as well :)

These are beautiful renders, Oblotzky is very talented.

It would be worth seeing a render with a light coloured case, given the scheme.
