Someone earlier today suggested to me there is a new MS keyboard for around $60 (gaming board) that has the ability to simeltaneously register 26 key presses. is this correct???

Yes (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=8721). And then there are non-Microsoft keyboards which can register all keys simulteneously. ;)
