Every thread I read these days seems to have turned into 'Does it fit holtites?' and general Brassplate fap talk...
What happend, will it be full chrome all ez snap boards soon?
-
Holtite cause it sounds like "hold tight", hold me senpai
-
"Get off my lawn you kids with your holtites and brass plates." Is asking if something is the new circle jerk this year's circle jerk? Relax.
-
Copper plates are the next big thing for 2018
-
Holtites are great for people who're unsure if they would like the switches they're planning to use, or just to keep the resale value of certain customs high. Brass plates on the other hand....

Not a fan of holtites for switches but I am a fan of them for leds

Not the circlejerk, I don't see them on reddit enough.
-
I like brass.. but the way that they're implemented in keyboards is just a huge waste of material and machining time..
-
Brass plates will be interesting. I hope mine feels good when I try it
-
i'm out of the loop with these fancy holtites
how stable are they for switches? is a plate mounted switch secure enough?
how stable are they for LEDs? how do they compare to sip sockets?
if you can already remove switch tops after soldering i can't imagine too much benefit for switch holtites apart from not having to solder. however having to line up sip sockets for soldering is a pain so i can imagine it being useful for LEDs
-
I don't even know what Holtites and Brassplates are... I guess I am not part of the GH cool cats. :'(
-
Waiting on my first order to see how well I like the holtites.

They do absolutely NOTHING..
It's the same exact thing if you took a brick, and duct-taped it to your keyboard.

nothing, as in they feel and operate exactly the same way as soldering your switches feel like?

I didn't read your post..
thought you were talking about the brass plates.
Holtites don't feel any different..
It's not mechanically as stable, but we're not actually killing zombies with our keyboards.

Holtites are just not as useful as they seem, and given the asking price it's totally not worth it..
I remember people buying sockets for their Opamp collections on DACs.. I knew many of the ee-student buddies of mine got into that..
But almost all of them eventually agreed that it was pointless, because While swapping out opamps is now possible.. It's just of no practical use, and a hassle..
This was for 1 or 2 opamps.. now multiply and extract 87 switches.. You'd probably do it once or twice, then NEVER again..
But it costs $50 to even go through this.. WHY bother. ??

yea completely this, I would way rather spend that extra money on an extra pcb+plate combo if you're really worried about switchin it up down the line.. or you know, just desolder..

woa are they really that expensive
perhaps they are for the noobies who are terrified of soldering anything
just buy 400($?) holtites for a TKL with LEDs and your build is now a lego build

I thought you need to solder the holtites in?

You stick them in the holes of your PCB, and then can seat switches without soldering. This makes the switches removable, so you can change them without desoldering. A different model exists that is the correct size for LEDs.
from here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=87127.0)
EDIT: wait a sec that doesn't exactly say you don't have to solder the holtites themselves

Guilty as charged, LZ CLS inbound boys.

I thought the brass in Korean customs was stupid before it was cool.
