Title: Cherry MX Silent Reds or MX Silver for everyday use
Post by: kol on Thu, 30 March 2017, 20:36:56
So at the moment I'm using an IKBC f87 with Cherry MX blacks, and I like the stiff feel and smoothness of it, but I'd also like something lighter to swap out with every now and then.

The silvers and silents both bottom out shallower than the stock reds. With the silents you lose that nice clack and sharpness of bottoming out, I've read some people compare it to the mushy feeling of typing on rubber domes. But then others say they're the best and smoothest Cherry switches they've used so far, rivaling a Topre board.

As one of the newer switches, should all the silvers have the new smoother Cherry stems too? I've got a set of reds on a Corsair right now that are kinda scratchy and just don't feel too great, I'm returning that one soon.

So for general use (forums, reddit, some fairly casual World of Warcraft and Overwatch maybe), is there anything I may be missing to help me make a decision? I don't have a lot of disposable income for things like keyboards so I don't want to regret my decision.

For the silents I was thinking a WASD v2 tkl with a set of their blank white pbt caps, those look nice. I can't find a whole lot of boards with silvers in stock but MK.com has a Ducky One PBT, shame it's not tkl though.

MX silents still have some issues. I haven't used silvers but I think you might get more mileage out of them.

Its probably a choice between the feelings of bottoming out between these switches. If you want the usual, get the Silvers. If not then a little more softer and mushy Silents/Pinks.

I've been eyeing the Red silents lately.  I'm torn between reds and browns for my favorite switch.
