Title: Removing switches from Steelseries and replacing to Filco?
Post by: okan on Sat, 01 April 2017, 17:08:20
Hey there,

I own a Steelseries 6vg2 keyboard with black switches and bunch of Filco boards but no black switches. I was wondering..since i hate Steelseries keyboard layout but love black switches, I was thinking of installing them to my Filco blues(also don't like anymore)..Is it possible? :)

You just have to desolder both boards then solder in the switches you want wherever you want them.

Just buy another keyboard. In the time it would take to do the swap, you'd make enough money working at a job to just buy a new keyboard.

Was implying TacticalStache prostitutes oneself for keycap money..

But if Stache has only got $100 at the end of the month, he really need to raise the rates on his Triage-of-Services..

/hahahahahahahahahahahaha

Yes you can but it's gonna be a PITA to desolder all of the switches and then install them. After the cost of the soldering equipment and all of the hassle you will probably be better off buying a used keyboard from someone here or mechmarket for around the same price and much less hassle.

I did it on my Filco. Like others said, it's a bit of work, and a slight risk of lifting a pad, but it was a fun project for me.

Most of the time washing the keycaps with soap would be enough to get rid of the stains.  :P

But yes definitely just sell your SteelSeries and buy a new one.

Another good alternative to Filco would be WASD V2.

It's just so ... not .. right.. feel..  u know ?

Like you meet a pretty girl, you get her to talk to you.. but something is horribly wrong.... and it turns out she's got a skin-head boyfriend that abuses her,  you want to help, but in the back of your mind you know you're a computer guy, not a soldier..

I must agree. Just because you could do something doesn't mean it makes sense to do it.
