Cherry Profile. GMK uses the original Cherry keycap molds, and all GMK is Cherry profile. Shorter and better than OEM

BBCDEE profile, which is what most Cherry profile sets get run in.

If only they used PBT... ah well, one can dream.

Hmm, ok. So these Starry Artisan caps only come in SA or OEM, would this look weird with cherry profile?

They can't. BSP owns the tooling for PBT Cherry profile.

Couldn't they just make their own tooling for PBT? Not that it would make any sense financially for them to do so.

Can they? Yes.
But they won't.

I thought this too. I hope the sudden spike in sets prompts them to make it. Would be dynamite, but not sure how much sales they'd get.

HUGE GIMONGOUS PLANET SIZED gap in the market for Cherry profile PBT keycaps. Why those who have the means haven't taken advantage of this is quite beyond my understanding. Much coin would be made, men would want to be them, women would want to be with them. Clearly they have other interests.

GMK making PBT would require enough work and money that I doubt they ever would. PBT double shot molds would be even more expensive so they'd have to go the dye sub route which would then require either outsourcing the dye subbing or working on developing their own dye sub production line. The only reason I could see them going the PBT route is if some other company starts dominating the ABS cherry profile market and they need to figure out how to make up profits elsewhere.

I see your point, but at the same time it's hard to imagine anyone buying ABS if the same design in PBT were available for the same price. They'd clean up!

That's the thing: it would not be the same price.
Additionally, you wouldn't have as many colorful sets since you can't dyesub bright legends on dark caps.

Actually, you can reverse dyesub, though from what I've heard it's still in development.

Ah well if there's technical limitations they need to get on that lol! I for one would pay more though, so if more expensive I'd be fine with that. I loathe shine so ABS just doesn't work for me unfortunately. I'm not the only one.

Idk, I personally really enjoy the softness of ABS and when sets start to shine. In the end I use both PBT and ABS so if a set is in a colorway I like I have no holds regarding the material.

Would you donate/ help fund the 6 figure sum it'd require for GMK to start producing PBT keycaps?

If they put out such a request sure... I reckon they'd get a lot of positive response to that, providing they offered backers some sort of perk.
-
I'd be interested to see exactly what percentage of the community is die-hard PBT users and lovers, who won't even touch ABS... and what percentage is totally cool with ABS and whose only concern is the color of the sets.

This comes up in every thread about GMK.
It's not economically viable for them to produce new tooling.
We don't need to have this conversation in every thread. Just yell as BSP to be better.
