Title: Replacement IBM Keyboard controller ?
Post by: OldIsNew on Fri, 07 April 2017, 22:11:53
I have a model M 1394950 board with a bad 1398012 controller board. Lock lights may blink once (or not at all) when keyboard plugged in but then nothing and no response at all from key presses. I swapped out the controller for another with the same membrane connectors (16 + 12 pin) and the board works fine. The problem is the 1398012 has an SDL plug with a nice detachable cable while the replacement controller has an attached cable - not as nice! Any ideas where I could find a replacement 1398012 controller  or what IBM keyboard years/models use the 1398012 so I could keep an eye out for a donor keyboard? I'd really like to have my SDL cable back!

You can order the controller from Unicomp as well.

The replacement logic assembly is $20. To order use the link below:
http://pckeyboard.com/page/KBDCFG/CUSTOM
Enter qty 2
In the customization box enter "logic assembly 1378170"

Thanks so much!! I really didn't want to end up taking a controller from another working vintage board - I'll give Unicomp a shout.

if not, I think I have a controller from a rubber dome M laying around. I got it for free from HaaTa and have harvested just about everything else useful from it already.

I appreciate that very much - if Unicomp says they don't have them anymore then I may take you up on the offer!

Just an update - I replaced the two 47µF, 10V electrolytic caps on the non-working controller and now it's good to go. I did order a new controller from Unicomp too since I was still needed another controller for a board without one - works fine and it's good to know replacements are available. Thanks again!
