Title: Do you use more than 3 monitors ?
Post by: tp4tissue on Wed, 12 April 2017, 16:22:25
Monitors are so cheap..

I'm thinking of running 6x monitors because i saw that when I was a young Tp4 and always wanted it..

Anyone using 3x or more monitors ?

I used to run a triple monitor setup but the bezels always bugged the **** out of me and I realized I wasn't always using all three.  At most, I'd use two or two and a half.  I've since switched over to ultrawides and am much happier.  Nice, clean look and much easier to work on - for me, at least.

I tried 3 at work for a while but ended up getting eye fatigue and headaches.

i had three. a 2k 38 inch and 2 small i think 22 inch 1080p. i never used the third unless it was to run speedfan whilst watching youtube and playing gaymes.

i ditched the third monitor and now just use two.

i just cant multitask at that level.

I use 2 right now at work and at home. At home I am thinking about adding a 3rd for school multitasking. I always buy e-textbooks so constantly have a book opened on 1 monitor, homework on the other and either reference or Word would be on the 3rd. Do not need 3 for work though.

I used three + a laptop's monitor only when I had three machines at once and that was only because I couldn't config the laptop's login screen to be on the external one.

I used to use 3, went bigger and cut it down to two. One nice landscape monitor and a secondary 24" portrait.

So much this. I run 3 now and I cannot stand the bezels. I've waited for the longest for the monitor companies to release a bezel-less monitor but to no avail.  :'( Funny thing is that I'm thinking about going ultrawide as well and im happy to hear that you are finding it well.

I hate having multiple monitors, I only use one. I was handed two at work initially, but I immediately got rid of the second one as it drove me nuts xD .

One of the people I used to work with had two monitors....... he used one for sticking sticky notes in an organised manner.

Nope no more than 3.
I sometimes have a hard time using the three I have.
Then again I don't have any shows running on my pc, it's usually music playing.

The most I've had at once was 4, which was 2x Laptops 2x Monitors. I did have 3x monitors at one point, and would gladly go back to it.

Currently have 2x 27" monitors. Ideally I'd like a TV for the third monitor, mounted above. Here's an old shot of my setup (same monitor setup tho)

I'm easing into tech after a 10+ year hiatus. The first step is some ultra wides. The second step is to 1up tp's gambling prob with a legit solid hustle.

only at work, I have a single 42" 4k IPS that I use like 4x 1080p displays, and my laptop display, so basically like 5 1080p displays

at home, just 2x 24" 1080p displays

If you have any kind of workflow more monitors are better. At work for monitoring servers while writing scripts I use two, a third monitor is usually kept empty in case somebody comes with an issue that needs fixing. You can swap quickly and not have to do the "open here, minimize this, oh I clicked on the wrong thing and closed it etc. Etc. " dance.

At home I had 3 and downsized to two because I build a second computer in another room. These two are usually social/forums on one and code/games on the other.

I want to join the ultra wide crowd however.

I wanted to get another 27" but how to position them ideally? I mean right in the middle you are always looking at the thigh gap of your monitors, no pixels there. But if you put them more to the side OCD kicks in. So from 1 you must go to 3: 1 in the middle, 2 on the side. That's how I like it. But the $$$ prevents me doing it.

Since there are no females on gh..

if we take the number of 4:3 monitors,   multiply it by 4,  as 4 videos is the smallest still visible on those 17 inch screens..

24 screens x 4 = 96 different videos..  assuming all fffffm videos.. that's a total of 24 * 4 * 5  = 480 simultaneous on screen view of ~p~

Each quad core, hyper threaded cpu, can run approximately 12 of these videos assuming all ran from ssd,

So you would need 8 quadcore cpus..   and 4x   6output gpus.

However, disk bandwidth is going to be an issue if all the videos are HD...

Typically hd online streams come at a max of 12mbit/s  which is 1.5Megabyte/s

96*1.5 = 144 Megabyte per second..

Since this is multiple streams written across a large space,  you would need 5x raid 0 960pro ssds to stream this..

Hardly, they are expensive as hell regardless of income.
IMO if you spend as much time as I do staring at monitors things like TN panels, low refresh rates, and color accuracy start to really count. I spend 12+ hours a day staring at my screens and went through 5 different screen setups before I landed where I am at now.

I am holding out for 4k + ulmb + hdr..

That new Asus might have it..  I can't understand why it's so late to being produced.. Because since the product doesn't exist.. people WILL buy it if you're the only game in town..

Counting my laptop's display, I've got four.

Two Dell P2715Q's on arms in portrait orientation and one Dell P2415Q directly above my MacBook Pro's 15" display.
