Title: Gateron Ping
Post by: jcoffin1981 on Sun, 16 April 2017, 22:30:30
Has anybody noticed a problem with gateron ping, specifically with the tactile switches purchased seperately.  I've bought browns preinstalled in a board, but when purchased separately and installed they are completely unusable.  The ping can be heard from across the room.  Maybe the switches used for a commercial board are pre-sorted/selected?

I'm debating desoldering them and installing Gateron Yellows as I have yet to give these a chance.  Although I'd hate to try them for five minutes and hate them and then give it away or sell it.

Yeah, some of my gateron blacks had pretty terrible ping when I got them. After lubing, I still discarded some of them which was still pinging.

What combo plate and case setup are you going with?

Generally lubing will address ping followed by other methods discussed at length here

- sound dampening in case
- alternate feet
- towel or equivalent on desk etc

ping is very complicated thing

when i had clears in my LZ it was v quiet, but my KUL w/e clears has recently started screaming at me

i think it's more dependent on what plate you're using vs what switches
