Title: Vinyl Wrap vs Spray Painting tables
Post by: Encabulator on Mon, 24 April 2017, 11:03:51
I really want to redo my entire desk to make it match my all black setup, but I don't know what the better option would be. Spray painting is easier and cheaper, but vinyl has more options. What do you think?

As in a mouse pad or something you put on your kitchen table? My desk is an odd shape, nothing will cover it well and it has 2 layers (pieces of wood) I'll need to cover.

Pictures of the desk?

You'd probably be best off refinishing and staining it, assuming it's not plywood or something.

Painting wood can be tricky and I personally don't care for the feeling of the surface afterwards, so it would bother me on a desk.

If the surface is bare wood then I would not recommend spray paint but something more made for wood - some kind of woodstain and lacquer or combo thereof. There are a few options.
I think spray paint could work if the surface is already lacquered but I don't think that that or vinyl is particularly durable, especially compared to woodstain.

BTW. "The 8-bit guy" on Youtube has a video of building a desk with floor tiles on the surface.

I'll take some pictures when I get home, I'm not even sure if it's real wood or not to be honest.

The desk is not real wood. I couldn't really do tiling because its curved at the front slightly

Then wrap it, or get a new desk =)

That would look like a pretty ghetto fix IMO.
