Title: CRT Gaming
Post by: tp4tissue on Mon, 01 May 2017, 08:18:56
Which games could yq'll NOT play without a CRT..

For Tp4 it's Typing of the dead..   Reflex training exercise with the zombies, the boat section moves too fast to see reliably on an LCD, can not get top score..

I gave my CRT away at a yard sale for $1 a few years ago to some senior citizen.

I have a 200lb Trinitron rotting in the basement that I so badly want to use for my SNES and PlayStation. Also curious to see how the PS2 would look on it. It has component ports, but isn't an HD TV, so that's good.

I can honestly say that the 100-120 Hz Diamondtrons that I have used were, I believe, the best screens ever made. No flicker (yes of course, but very very acceptable), very deep blacks, extremely crisp text. It was the best of the best. I miss it.

Then TFT LCDs came along... I had a lot... Samsung 152T, Samsung 172T, etc. They were like 30-35ms for gaming wtf.

I don't know why I ever ditched my CRT, it was great.

Tp4 couldn't affordz the 19 inch back then..

Used 17 inch for the longest before switching to lcd..

Summers were just too damn hot with the crts doing 250 watts.

That's true. Those CRTs really used all the power in the house around here.

19" also was really really deep. Almost didn't fit on my desk. But you know YOLO right? For 19" I did everything.

I heard Diamondtrons were considered some of the best, if not the best.

Yeess... there were also many spinoffs, like Sony's Trinitron.

The only working CRT I have left is in my Lynx ASCII terminal.

So I guess I play NetHack on it.

I still kinda miss my old 21" CRT.  Heavy and not very LAN party friendly but damn was it nice.  1280x1024 goodness typically.  1600x1200 when I needed more real estate and felt like squinting.
