Title: FC980M - Add LEDs for shine through caps?
Post by: Ef_Oh_Ex on Mon, 29 May 2017, 20:14:05
I have an FC980M. What I'd like to do is add an LED to each shine through cap on the board. Well there isn't an LED socket for the shine through key caps on the PCB.

Sooo, does anyone know if it would be possible to just wire one in? I could solder onto the factory LED light stems above the number pad?

The problem I see happening is there will not be enough power sent to the LED to power two LEDs from one socket.

Does anyone have experience with this?

I just tested this concept on a Varmillo VA12M and it worked... one socket powered 2 LEDs.

I can't see why this wouldn't work on the FC980M.

It should work, but depending on how they set the current they might be dim.

Come to find out the FC980M pcb already has holes for LEDS for the numlock and caps lock switches. I simply soldered an LED into these provided holes and bingo, it works!
