spill resistant keyboards and rubber novelty keys, I don't think I want to know who your target market is...
-
Yay Tai-Hao cube type. It's called TA series.
Datacomp are in my bad books for perpetually ignoring me. Someone took some dreadful photos one year of their then-"new" Alps switches (rebuilt Forward tooling after Forward dropped SKBL/SKBM series when the tooling wore out) but you can't make out any of the details, and that's all we've ever seen of them. I had a strange conversation with the head of DSI a few years and I have a photo of the machinery that makes them, but it's all sort of semi-secret. I think he lost interest when he realised I wasn't about to splurge millions of dollars in goods, and that all I wanted was to preserve knowledge.

It's funny how often people knock over drinks at work. So far, nothing's ended up inside the Cherry G80-3000 that someone's borrowing from me.

This is why I favour a policy of no drinks or food around nice desks. Witnessed too many beers, coffees and worse end up all over nice devices. Cheap, disposable Logitech keyboards do a perfectly fine job for areas like the living room or where children/drunks/incompetents may be more likely to cause accidents.

What about the new profile keycaps? Interesting, no?

Datacomp had a prototype RGB keyboard using Matias switches or maybe their own Alps, but it never saw production. Sad, I really wanted that.

This would of been extremely nice if they fronted up with it but now it'll strictly be "Vapor-ware" lost with all the other versions that have been forgotten dreams, never to see the harsh light of day.

Hendy any info on the low profile Vortex 65%?
-
That cube profile looks really interesting. Does anybody know if Tai-Hao stopped putting that god-awful coating on their keycaps yet?

On their PBT they have completed remove the coating on Lighter keycaps color, but on Darker keycaps they must put thin anti-biosis coating or their keycaps can easily get scratched.

Hang on … what? How can PBT scratch easily? And how does a nanobiosis coating prove to be stronger than PBT?

Tai-Hao representative told me their PBT keycap materials consist around ~98% PBT and mixed with other materials.
-
That's not necessarily a bad thing (plastics are complex mixtures already), but why bother using PBT at all if it's softer than ABS? That would make using PBT worthless. Either there's some misunderstanding, or this "PBT" is nothing more than a gimmick.

Signature plastics had issues with PBT scratching on the dark gray color when trying to produce the "grayed" SA set. It's a thing I guess

Historically PBT is beige and used with dye-sub, so dark PBT keycaps are less common. Could the dark pigment be responsible for weakening the plastic? I've never heard this being a problem for Topre, but then I've never seen this issue mentioned before in relation to any manufacturer. The idea that the nanobiosis coating is stronger than PBT is curious though.
This is the sort of information that everyone should be adding to the Deskthority wiki with references, but instead, it appears and then disappears again, becoming impossible to distinguish from hearsay, slander, misinformation and plain old Chinese whispers.
