I think it is just you?
Something broke.
For example the "what did you get in the mail today" thread just duplicated itself (IDK if that is related). That thread was just on page 995 today, then if you go to the next page it goes back to the first page, and starts the thread over, going all the way to page 1990 or something. Hard to explain, but something broke.
See: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=33130.new#new
Chrome is saying there isn't something secure on page 996, but on page 997, it goes back to second page of the thread.
Hrrrrrmmmm.. where is hoff.. he fix.. !!
Hmm yes that is just me I guess, need to figure that out.Something broke.

Huh. Yea, I'd say something broke =P
I hadn't even noticed how long that thread got.
Btw, page 996 and 997 load fine for me, so there might be something iffy with your version of Chrome.

i was at like 5550 or something.
But it doesn't even matter since they can just manually set post counts anyway, that was ruined a long time ago.

Rip lost like half my posts.same
My post game still going stronk. Fk all u gaise.
Yes, there's something funny going on. We're looking into it. As far as I am aware, it was not done on purpose, but we need to speak to the admins who have access to the backend of the site to see if they know the cause.
I don't believe any posts have been lost, just post count being reported incorrectly.
lost like 250
if i bothered to get a star i could have proved it

I noticed mine was not increasing. I assumed the posts just weren't counting when replying to a thread I started.
Correct, I was at 26 or so when I posted my Artisan sale thread. I know I've posted more than twice in replies on it.

... was the classifieds always ignored though?

That would be the most simple adjustment..

Halverson would have 1.5x10^20 posts :))
I vote we cube the posts
Seems to be kinda proportional.
Something like around 10-15% of posts are gone.
Which, obviously, is a lot more for some people than others.
I'm wondering what mod was drunk moderating and screwed things up.
Surely there are logs? :P  :spam:
Edit: Also wondering if some of the bigger photo heavy threads are too big for SMF to handle. They might need locked then restarted as v2.
Can someone explain what is happening? I have seen something similar from time to time; each time a different explanation was given. Nothing makes sense though.

There are logs, but nothing in the logs the mods have access to explain this. We think it has to do with the database behind the site, which we as mods don't have access to -- so we have to wait for the admins to take a look, as it's a separate set of logs. Can someone explain what is happening? The last time postcounts changed (that I recall) was when we changed which subforums counted towards postcount. That's different from what happened this time, because as far as we're aware, it wasn't the specific action of any mod that led to this issue. We don't yet know what the cause was this time, we're hoping once the admins take a look we'll have an explanation.

Has anyone noticed if their total post count overall is the same?
I can't remember what mine was a week or two ago - maybe a large section of posts was archived or moved into an area that does not count towards post count?
my solution from post whoring was to just remove post counts being displayed. People care less about post counts and more about join dates at that point.

What always amazes me is the people who have been members longer than I have that don't have the 25 posts required to post a classified ad when they decide to clear out their old stuff.:D

My overall post count is exactly the same as it was before the drop.

Thanks for the confirmation.
Just looks like a whole section was moved to "doesn't count". Curious to know what it is.

I think it's just the what did you get in the mail today thread but that'd mean I've posted there 1600+ times so I could be wrong.
Also noticed after submitting a new post in the 'What did you get in the mail today' thread, it dropped me around page 996.

Lots of people make accounts just to lurk. I suppose it does make it easier to follow threads and such that you're interested in. Personally, I never bother making an account anywhere until I want to participate, but I can see the logic in other approaches.Has anyone noticed if their total post count overall is the same?

I don't think we lost posts, but I also don't know of any threads being moved or subfora having their settings altered. Still waiting to hear back from the admins.
If anyone does know of some thread or grouping of posts that's missing, or doesn't appear to be being counted, that would be valuable information for us to have.
Just curious, who are the back-end admins?
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=69449.0
According to the list there's 4 admins and iMav, ashort not being active in over a year. Photo already knows but told me she's waiting on an Admin as well. So I'm guessing rkinze is the only back-end admin?

rkinze, samwisekoi, and iMav I believe are the ones who have that access. ashort may as well, but I don't know that I've ever interacted with him. Not 100% sure which of them is looking into this, but I believe it's iMav.
Photo is more of a front-end admin, and has more crossover with the senior mods. I don't know to what extent, if any, she has access to the backend.

And Sam is moving house at the minute so looks like we'll have to get comfortable with these counts :p
Obviously the 'What did you get in the mail?" thread has the most replies of any thread on the forum.
Again as I said before I'm betting the database is having trouble due to the size of that particular thread.

Any progress made on this?

I haven't heard anything, but I've been busy with work recently, so it's possible I missed hearing something. Will check with the other mods, and report back if there's anything new.

Also any chance we could get word about the broken email notification system?
I know I've gotten several days of emails all in a block before. Let me do some digging.
Just checking in to say that I know imav has been looking into some things related to the site. However, I don't know what, if anything, he's found in relation to postcounts. Will continue to update as I find out more.
Welp, I'm down to 0 posts.:)) :)) :)) :)) :))
All users' post counts have been "recounted". Enjoy!
Any other outstanding issues that I should be aware of?? (with GH)

Yeah the counts are still messed up from when this thread was started.
The most recent deduction that seemed to happen in the last day or two was corrected but not the initial problem from over 2 weeks ago.

I lost over five hundred posts this time.

I feel like 50% of the time I have that happen.
Every once in a while I'll also get a notification of a post from a few months ago.
Basically, I think the emails have always been a bit broken.
I'm still down about 500.I lost over five hundred posts this time.
Yeah i wanna say I'm still down like 300 or so
Why blame Ripster?
Mine has not changed. But all good. I only lost like 400.
One of the mods is going through and looking for any inconsistencies. We'll keep you all in the loop.

You didn't have over 17K that counted. Some of us lost more posts than most people have in total
Yea i am down 7000
The post counts are CORRECT. Note, if you had posts counted from a forum that was later changed to not have posts counted towards your total...a recount wipes those out. They would not get wiped up unless a recount was initiated (which is not part of any regular maintenance task).
seems fixed now
im only down like 120 now
