Woah..
Didn't even think about it..
But apparently it's true..
And it's far more dangerous than with humans, because the only animal parts that make it into pet food are the absolutely worst grade, unfit for human consumption.
+ the lack of regulation, + the cat's inability to speak + their inability to hire cat-lawyers = cancer..

USA human population is 321,400,000 there were 1.7 million newly diagnosed in 2016
Dogs, 885,429 registered, 4208 cancer
Humans, 0.52 % cancer
Dogs, 0.47 % cancer
WOW... that's too damn close .. and dogs/cats pretty much eat what we eat.. the byproducts of our agriculture..
If we're getting cancer , our pets are getting cancer.. How dare they hurt our foofoos..

It's kind of known, but not well enough, that much cat food is is packed with grain. Much more diabetes in cats since this stuff was normalized. Since learning this, we only feed our cats grain free dry food with 80% meat content.
Just as we humans are fat and diabetes ridden from stuffing ourselves with sugar, dairy and grain that our bodies are not evolved to eat. Cats are evolved to eat small rodents and birds, not grain. Also, only a few weeks ago I was told that even fish is bad for them, but I need to go look into that in more detail...
N.B. tp4, I don't see your picture. it's fixed now :thumb:

There really should be a lot more regulations in the pet food industry, but a big part of it is knowing as a pet owner not to buy the crap they sell in grocery stores.

Vegan catfood is literally animal abuse :))
All felines are 100% carnivorous.
This is something I actually find hilarious, it's beyond irony which is what makes it so funny. The very people wanting to help animals by not eating them are killing them by forcing their philosophies on the animals physiology. Sure I feel a little bad for the animals that die or get seriously ill through vegan diets and homeopathic treatment, but a few dead pups are nothing for a reality-based joke that is so perfect.

well the world record oldest dog was a vegan dog.. so.. i think the dogs can do both..
Cats, i'm not so sure about.. although I wouldn't be surprised if the by-product laden catfood killed more quickly than a mild-deficiency from vegan cat food.

The only veggie content cats need is already inside their natural prey.

Cats have an instinct to chew grass to help with their digestion. If they are outdoors then they will get grass there but if they are indoors they have to be provided a pot of grass to crop off at time to time ... or get fibre in the regular cat food.
Back on topic, obesity is a factor in cancer risk for sure.
I once had a cat that died of mammarian cancer. I had adopted it after my mom had got a new boyfriend. Instead of spaying it, she had regularly been putting birth control pills for cats in its food.
I learned that the pills had been of an older type that has long been considered unsafe for humans - because of increased cancer risk ... but for cats, it was allowed.
And yes, the cat was also overweight.

Cats eat grass to make themselves throw up, to regurgitate all the indigestible fur, feathers, bones etc.
Fun fact: cats need a variety of food in their diet, if they don't get a variety they can develop a protein allergy and then they will always throw up that particular food every time they try and eat it. Yet conventional 'wisdom' says "always give cats the same food, they don't like change." Could it be an amoral pet food industry promotes this to keep uninformed pet owners brand loyal?

i think it's just hard to tell , cat's can really tell us exactly..

Right you are :thumb:
Anyway, if you don't want a pet with cancer, you need to get yourself a whale. Bowhead or Humpback will do, but Bowheads are way cooler.
-
This food is also suspected in the rise of thyroid problems among cats.
Lizards apparently are bad for them as well.
As for the whales, they will eat you out of house and home (aquatic animals can also give you tuberculosis).

I would agree on that! Some processed foods are linked with poor behavior in dogs, and even with cancer. We have to be careful though and we rather get the advice of our pet's vet.

Anyway, if you don't want a pet with cancer, you need to get yourself a whale.
I looked up whales - they do get cancer but super-large whales don't die from it as easily as smaller whales.
However.. instead of a small whale, get a shark! Sharks and rays don't get cancer.
There are smaller sharks that are not entirely unreasonable to have in tanks at home, if you are a saltwater aquarium enthusiast.

What a pragmatic solution :))
