I finished my entire weekly quota before lunch on Tuesday. I just took a 45 minute nap, smoked a cigg, browsed Reddit, beat Sonic 1 via emulator, and now I'm sitting here watching the clock to hit lunch time. The day's not even half over and it's only Wednesday.
I ****ing hate this and wish I were dead sometimes. What a complete and total waste of my time.

What is your job?
-
Use that time to learn a new skill ..
Then get promoted, then all the females would be like, omg nturtle is so cool..
-
Pick up a hobby, like day drinking.

What is your job?
staring at dots all day trying not to get sucked into the void
Use that time to learn a new skill ..
Then get promoted, then all the females would be like, omg nturtle is so cool..
and therein lies the crux of my dispassion for this job - I'm already at the top for my department and there is zero incentive to make any effort at all since my efforts go unnoticed and there is no room for growth. so without that carrot on a stick, no matter how trivial, I simply do not care.... at all about the quality or quantity of work I do. there's literally no reason to do more or put forth any effort.

Pick up a hobby, like day drinking.
They have a job for that, Host clubs in japan, all you do is drink professionally with women in return for cash..
You don't even have to be super good looking, just not super ugly ..

Well, it doesn't have to pertain 100% to the job immediate below are above..
You can still learn more, and who knows where that may lead..
See what training programs they offer through work..

You can quit your job and move to southern AZ. You can hire on with my company and I can build you up into a network installation tech, or maybe a fiber splicer. Maybe security and access controls is more your speed. You could work your way up to a field supervisor or even a project manager.
So, depending on your skill set you can uproot your whole life for a starting wage of... I think I can get you $14-$15hr.
You can start out by working construction outside in triple digit heat for a good half of the year. Don't worry though, we provide plenty of bottled ice water.
If you know what you're doing on the equipment side, we do need another competent IT person for programming switches and security/access controls. From here if you manage to have all your office related work done, like it sounds like you do now, you could go to the field and do installation work. Rarely a day with nothing to do.

I should have ended that whole thing with a sarcasm tag.
If that offer was really considered then things must be feeling pretty bad for Noisy.

nTurtle's just got first world problems.. he's intelligent enough to not off himself.. that's enough to carry him through his 60s, assuming he goes plant based diet around then, he'll make it to 80s..

Low quota or high efficiency?

Low quota or high efficiency?
A bit from column A, and a bit from column B
I could put in effort, but there's no incentive to do so and it wouldn't make a difference to workflow. I've no real responsibility so I've no investment in any work-related outcome.

Stop the emoboy and just quit, if you don't want to it's OK.
I see a bunch of ppl here asking nice what you do or telling you to use the time to learn somethin that is a good idea.
Just look a way to quit in the future, do something with ur free time or dont complain.

Make something out of your job.

So, why don't you consider changing jobs? You don't want to get stuck in this current boredom. It's going to drain you on and one day you find yourself too lethargic to pick up new skills and get sucked into this void. I say leave this company!
-
Yeah that is the plan but I want to wait a few more months to meet the minimum benchmark review standard HR likes to see before leaving. Don't want this job to look like a pump and dump, but I'm beginning to notice a sort of mental atrophy affecting me.

Also.. don't do drugs.. drugs are bad ..
-
drugs are bad ..
Ahh yes well said, but allow me to offer this counterpoint: Drugs are great.
-
How did drugs get into the picture? Too bored, so do drugs?
Hmm...

What makes it all worthwhile is ALWAYS the payments made every fortnight, into my bank accounts.
That is why it's worth sticking around, otherwise I would of left my employ a long, long time ago 8) .

How long? I blinked my eyes and have been in the same company for 20 years! OMG!
-
My jobs too busy. I'd the first day today in about a month that I was caught up. Could not work and actually relax for a change rather than thinking I'd be at It on evenings and weekends if I didn't race.

Creeping up on 8 years myself. Man has that time just gone by quickly.
It's funny because it doesn't feel like time flies when you're at work.

I'm freelance and there's two guys full time doing the job I do, where I mainly work when it's crunch time. Both of them quit on the same day due to being overworked/stressed (they had doctors notes n all that). Now I'm covering both of their jobs by myself while the company tries to fill the full time positions. I could apply, and probably get the job, and earn way more than ever in my life. But I feel like I'd wanna kill myself after a couple of months. The alternative is to stay freelance and live with the stress of uncertainty, compounded by being the sole provider for my partner and daughter.
I just want to run off and lie down in the woods tbh.

A man needs a purpose in his life.
People are to caught up by getting some high paying and high status job that they hate doing.
Dont settle. Follow the grind till you get what you want.
Hard work pays off. Long days and sometimes no social life. But it pays off.
I bought a brand new house at 25 and am now starting to invest in my dream of owning a brew pub.
I also had to work my ass off, but its so worth it now.

Sadly some of us learn this too late and get used to making (and in turn spending) a certain amount of money (especially when providing for dependents) then find ourselves trapped and stuck in what we are doing with no clear path of escape and our purpose becomes work, work, work.
Edited for clarity.

Would like to clarify, it's your Liabilities which are the TRAPS, the amount of money you make is not where the obstructions come from.
Wifoo, Mini Spamrays, mortgage = trap.

Hey Noisy, just find a remote job and do it in your spare time, making bucks.
Or polish the skills you'll need for your future dream job ;)
-
Just be sure to have the next job in the bag before you quit your current one.

Don't forget you can't change some liability - for example kids. And then you have to plan for their college and made personal sacrifices just so they can get good education. Only to have them **** in your face years later.
Go call you mom, guys! They made A LOT OF sacrifices to get you where you are!
-
You could moonlight, call in "sick" every once in a while and do something like this to spice up your life: https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/evs/d/merdaddy-merman-for-hire/6162547469.html

That's a pretty good idea actually. Call in sick on a Wednesday and do something just insane to break the monotony.

You're a Good parent, that's why you think that.. But it is not true for all children.. In fact, if we include all countries, and how most children are born to --undeveloped-- nations... Hahaha.. it's most likely less than 50% who believe it's a fixed liability.
For example, Kangaroos, when they run into a dry season, they will abort their own undeveloped fetus and eject it from the pouch so that there will be enough milk for the more developed baby roo..

Naa, Dad made me join the military.
Best decision of my life.
I learned so much from the military.
Leadership, fellowship, independence, responsibility, hard work, etc.
On top of that, got real world experience and a free education.
Not to mention all the benefits you get being a vet.
My dad has given me $0 after I left the house.
Minus the 10k for a deposit to help with options on a house. But I gave that right back after I closed on it.

Don't forget the sacrifices Dad made when you were 0-5 year old. That accounts to something!
