I'd like to replace the stock cable provided with my Leopold FC980M but it's not as easy as buying any mini-usb cable you like. The reason is that the cable passes through a small hole on the back of the keyboard, which is a good idea because this prevents the connector from damaging or disconnecting. The problem is that the cable has to be bit thinner than normal cables. I don't know really how to measure cables thickness. A XBOX controller cable, for instance, wont fit unless you force it and damage the rubber of the cable. I've been able to find a normal grey cable of the right thickness, but it's just as standard as the stock cable. As regard braided cables, the only one I've found on the Internet is this one (https://www.amazon.com/EZOPower-Mini-USB-Tangled-Powershot-Replacement/dp/B00PV5XARE/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1500494198&sr=8-5&keywords=nylon+mini-usb+cable (https://www.amazon.com/EZOPower-Mini-USB-Tangled-Powershot-Replacement/dp/B00PV5XARE/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1500494198&sr=8-5&keywords=nylon+mini-usb+cable)), which fits well and it's quite cheap too. However, I would like something black or dark grey or with some combination of them. Pexon cables sells lots of cool mini-usb cables but I understand they are the standard thickness. Any idea?

The problem is you have to reduce the wire size from a small USB cable down to something even smaller, this means something has to give, either less shielding or thinner wires. Neither are a good thing to do.
My advice would be to braid it yourself, and do it just after it exits the keyboard where you won't likely see it.

I made dongles for all my keebs ,mini to micro usb sleeved with paracord and a wsken magnetic end on it so I can pop and swap at will while keeping one cable on the desk and not killing my usb ports. fits though my 980c pretty well
