Title: Newly retooled Matias switches
Post by: pixelpusher on Mon, 24 July 2017, 16:35:04
Remember a while back when Matias shared that reworked linear switch with a new housing that was supposed to have less wobble?

[attachimg=1]

Anyone have the scoop on what's become of them?

Perhaps, just perhaps, they were busy stocking switches for Keyboardio.  ;D

They were out of stock on Matias.ca since maybe April or May? (possibly earlier) but they popped up recently: https://matias.store/collections/keycaps-and-switches-1/products/matias-quiet-click-switch-box-of-200

I ordered 400 and they already shipped. Guess I'll find out if they're really different or not =)

I can say with decent confidence that they are noticeably less wobbly than the last batch (or whatever is installed on my VA68, I didn't build it).

They still wobble, but it's definitely closer to what you would be used to w/ MX switches. I'm not super picky about wobble (never sticker or swap housings because of it), but the old MQC batch was a bit too wobbly.

I could take them apart to w/ some pics, but it's looking good. Now I have to shave all these SP Alps stems down, so I can fit them onto these stems (still super tight/impossible without modding).

Good to hear it.  Yes, I plan to take a razor to my light cycle set when it gets here

 Wobble doesn't bother me too much either, but it was definitely quite excessive before. I also hope that they fixed the wobble.

Wobble bothered me a lot on the linears.  A more appropriate name would not be "Quiet-Linear" but "Quiet-Rattle."  To think this switch was originally designed for stenographers in a court room - well I don't know if the judge would be too happy with that.

I suspect wobble would be less offensive on a non-dampened switch.

I picked up some spare matias click from a seller on reddit and they are very much improved.  Wobble is almost completely gone!

You're saying Matias boards have Outemu switches now? So where does the Matias part still come in?

He's selling otemu, yes.  But he is also selling Matias switches :)

From the post:
For the alps fans - Matias Poly Carbonate shell alps variants

Matias Alps (white) - click $.31/ea

Matias Alps (grey) - tactile $.31/ea

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seriously considering swapping out all the switches in my v60 now
