Title: Found a "Simplex" brand Cherry G81-1800, with Doubleshot keycaps for $5

Picked this up at a local recycling centre yesterday.  Managed to get it for $5, because I just wanted the keycaps.  The keycaps are completely unused, no sign of wear at all. 

I couldn't find any information about this Simplex company on Deskthority.

I did some research, and it turns out this Simplex company makes fire monitoring systems (those locked fire system panels you see in the entrance of large buildings). Looks like some of their larger systems sit in server racks, and have re-branded Cherry keyboards in them.

Probably explains why the keycaps have no wear, the keyboard is probably never used in these fire systems.  Might be something to look out for, if anyone wants some virgin OG Cherry doubleshot keycaps.

Damn good find, just wash those keycaps then you're good to go!

If I'm not mistaken those are Cherry MY switches, the keycaps should be compatible with Cherry MX.

Yup, I already got them on my 30% board.

They're OG Cherry doubleshot caps.  Can't believe how new they look. 

Maybe I'll see if anyone wants the whole set.

there actually are 30% boards now yes  :confused:

Congrats, good find.

Not sure what you could do with the rest of the board. G81's aren't built that well and MY feel like ass. Just keep it for collections sake I guess.

I posted a pics on r/mk, and I had people PMing me making me offers for the case.  I think some people use G81 cases to build 1800s using a Leeku PCB?
