So after a long, long time, I decided I needed a new clicky keyboard and picked up a rantopad mxx to try gateron blues on the cheap.
It's not too bad coming from a 55g hhkb. A little higher off the desk that I'm used to, but not that big a deal. The question now is, assuming I keep it, what next? The stabs are mushy and stiff af and the cheapo caps are definitely meh. Is there new things I should be doing to stabs besides krytox? Do gateron switches need the lubing and springs of yore? Which gmk kit should I put on it? I have cyan and carbon and I'm debating getting penumbra from originative.

From what I can gather, that rantopad uses cherry mx stabilizers. There is a mod you can do for cherry mx stabilizers that will address the "mush" involving clipping the little anemic feet off the base, but that would involve major surgery if the board has a plate. You'd have to desolder everything basically so you could remove the plate, remove the stabilizers, clip them and re-assemble. If it feels stiff, they might've used a green switch for the spacebar rather than a blue - in which case you could just desolder and replace just that switch. Can't think of any other reason it could feel a lot stiffer than other keys.

You would need to desolder only each switch that is straddled by a stabiliser. Then the stabilisers can be removed from the top.
But if you install O-rings, then the mush will not be noticeable anyway.

After using it for a few weeks, it feels like the stabs just needed to be broken in or I needed to get used to them again. Also, decided to keep carbon on it So far, still happy with clicky clicky switches again.
