Apple already nicknamed their AEK series after aircraft carriers, even though they a standard size.

Yeah, but that's Apple, they do silly stupid things like that.

…and someone was recently telling me that macro keys and media controls are a new "innovation".

Not sure what that beastie is, but now I somehow feel an irrational desire for keys with legends like BEAM ALIGN and LOCATE ORIGIN and PARTIAL FIELD and START/ABORT REPAIR and of course. . .  STIG.

Nice find. I'm quite intrigued what is it's primary function. What field of work this was made for? Looking something graphical but I don't know a think about that field.

P.S. Could it be repurposed to be a keyboard + midi controller/synth something? Just with all the knobs, extra buttons and stuff.

The keyboard was used to control a Focused Ion Beam (FIB), a technique which is used primarily in physics applications. To put it simply, the technique involves firing charged atoms (ions) with nanometer precision at a target. This can be used to: ablate the target material (i.e. drill nanometer sized holes) or deposit atom-thin layers of material onto a surface. It starts to become clear why there are so many controls on this thing.

P.S. Could it be repurposed to be a keyboard + midi controller/synth something? Just with all the knobs, extra buttons and stuff.

That was one of my ideas actually, it would be amazing to get that set up. I don't think I'm going to have time to work on that project though, and since I'm relocating soon I'm probably going to look to sell it...

I would like to know.  If it is Model M, I've never seen one like that.  Right ctrl and numlock light cluster throw it off.
