Title: Shift keys working sporadically with HHKB build
Post by: JunkFace on Thu, 24 August 2017, 13:30:50
I recently customized a HHKB with the Hasu bluetooth controller, some mx stems and 35g domes.  I've probably took the pcb out 10 times now and for whatever reason the shift keys don't work consistently.  I think the issue might be with the way the springs align with the capacitive part of the PCB since those keys aren't on the grid.    I was thinking of either taping or gluing the domes directly to the pcb so I know they're aligned properly.  My question is has anyone else had this problem and what ended up being the solution?

Just had some time to tear this board apart and tape the domes in place.  Worked like a charm I'm now functioning at 100%  :thumb:

You might want to try it the reverse way, i.e. lay down the case with the top side facing the table, then place the domes and springs into the holes on top of the extended sliders and finally screw on the PCB.

On the plus side, since you already have to hold down so many extra keys to do what we dinosaurs with full-size boards do with one finger, maybe you should just give yourself a break and let go of the whole Shift thing.
