Has anyone else noticed a lot of ICs and GBs lately from people with like 4 posts and no ties to the community? I admittedly haven't been around much in the past year or so, but Geekhack will always have a special place in my heart, and since I've been back lurking around lately it seems like I see a lot more of this than I remember. Is it just me?

Same

Yup
-
I have noticed the same. I guess it's the thing to do.
By the way, it's good to see you're still around, even of not as active.
-
People just want to gather as many orders now, so they spread wide and hope for the most.
Most of these ICs won't actually happen, but people like to entertain their ideas and hope that theirs is the one that catches on.

Been that way for a bit now. People coming in, not giving a **** about community, looking to make a buck.

if you have no posts around here i just assume you're part of some group that has gotten privy to the fact theres money to be made in mech keyboards. Kinda like all these asian jewelry and toy factories making "artisan" caps and laughing all the way to the bank.
-
I'm fairly new here, but I have noticed the same thing.
I thought it was weird, but no one ever seemed to say anything, so I figured it was the norm.

I actually dont know what a carpet bagger is.

Ah kinda like tp and his ability to peddle vegi life even when it seems out of place

TP is hardly the carpetbagger type.

...ICs and GBs lately from people with like 4 posts and no ties to the community?
A few of them I notice are more active on places like MD, but I look at some of them with a healthy dose of skepticism and wariness, even if the idea looks promising.
...people like to entertain their ideas and hope that theirs is the one that catches on.
Agreed, I think some are just wishful thinking and little chance of follow through.
...not giving a **** about community, looking to make a buck.
Maybe true for many, but I would also level that accusation at some established GB organizers.

i've usually felt that those people either don't realise what type of work goes on behind the scenes to make a group buy happen, or that they just want to throw a design out there and see if people like it and then just palm it off to massdrop

tp4 is part of the cultural fabric of Geekhack. Many have joked that you're not really a Geekhacker until most of your posts are in Off Topic, and tp4tissue is a perfect example of this.

The consumption of animal foods directly cause heart disease / cancer / diabetes / dementia / stroke..

Also I have noticed how people circumvent the classifieds rules and post a link to another site/forum, don't even bother to add details and embed photos... but than again I'm just a Salty Edgelord FK

Why not have more rules for who is qualified to run a group buy?

One of the reasons as to why I give out generic advice to people that message me about design programs :(
