here is my new Chevy Colorado LT w/ V6 (blah blah blah diesel blah) it isn't the diesel... It is quite nice to drive about in... I'm liking the higher ride height.. saw some chump in a civic straining their neck because they couldn't see around my truck...I lol.. that feel in car when you can't see around the truck..HA
I am liking not hitting my sunglasses into the headliner if i raise them to the top of mah head also... in general I'm quite stoked

yeah.. I have seen a few ,,,a couple Pontiac G8's and a Chevy SS as well as what I believe was an Impala w/ Holden badges
also saw some gluten for expensive / aggravation with an actual Holden ute recently.. stunning I was quite jealous if I'm honest...apparently there is some company importing these and switching enough stuff to get them legal in the USA .. more expense / hassle than I'm down for atm.. but good on him..

apparently though i didn't know it at the time... to annoy Europeans???
blah blah blah.. I wanted the truck to expand my recreational options.. take bikes to the mountains.. carry camping / whatever supplies..
I also have joint pain... getting in and out of lower slung cars is a hassle... this truck is a perfect height for getting in / out of and blah blah blah..
I sold the volvo because my wife is a cancer survivor... and it had 250~k miles (odometer chucked it at about 225K) air con hadn't worked in years... and it had a tendency to blow fuses whenever it felt like doing so... I needed a car with AC that worked and that was newer /more comfortable to drive her to doctor's appointments all over creation many times a week..
That started the chevy progression got a cruze then as it was cheap, then got a Malibu because the cruze was too small after living with it for 3yrs and now got the Truck because my wife has been cancer free for 5yrs (anniversary just pasted) and I decided finally I could get the truck I had wanted for awhile..
I did absolutely love my Volvo 240 ...and if my wife hadn't have gotten sick I might have spent some money getting it a bit more sorted ... but I didn't have the time ..etc and so it had to go.

Meats and higher oil consumption is the root cause to all those things..
Gotta get on 100% Veggie today /!!

man.. if you don't like getting tailgated get a truck... 90+% reduction in "genius" tailgaters driving around here today (los angles...)
also if you can help it don't live in /near .etc los angles ...
not sure why (and no I don't clog up the fast lane... ) people are too nutz to be in the fast lane in LA for my taste .. going flow of traffic generally 3rd or 4th lane... only time I got tailgated was a few different dodge challengers... which actually have quite abysmal crash testing results...LA area Dodge Challenger drivers... RELAX... it is always rush hour here... chill..

First coulpe years of driving i would just lose it when someone was tailgateing me. Then i knida realsied that all these people i knew felt the same way when they were being tailgated but were oblivious to the fact that they would sit half a second behind the car in front. Now i prey for tailgaters, got to turn that 3000 dollar car into a 9000 payout and give me an excuse to upgrade.
You know in Australia, people that drive "trucks" utes are the worst for road rage, tailgating and neglecting to indicate.

yeah.. the truck drivers are pretty much the same here.. however they seem to more or less leave you alone if you are also driving a truck (1st day suggests anyways..)

Truck makes plenty of sense to me if you want to take bikes around on a regular basis. The racks are a pain.

Most of the time, tailgating is unintentional, because when you're coming near a choke point, Everyone is slowing down, and the person behind you simply won't have space to slow down much further..

Truck still a fine antidote to most tailgaters... good stuff...
I don't get it ... every dang day here, traffic backs up in the same places.. but god **** if everyone isn't going to floor it to 80 going right into standing back up in the same ****ing place it is literally everyday... weekends as well... god help if you if you are screw it i'm going to coast/~go near speed limit... into all this traffic I know is right ahead..
I wonder what people will gripe about when all the cars drive themselves??? meh..
So far I'm doing the Lord's work in the truck letting people merge... not tailgating.. other trucks are much nicer to you if you are also in a truck... I'm pretty certain now..
apparently 2nd day now ... most people won't mess with you in a truck....

You're really driving home the micropenis thing :p . I'd just not say anything and live with the shame that you drive and are proud of a humongous penis inflator :p .
If I owned a truck like that, I'd try and hide it from people as much as possible xD .

I haven't owned anything but trucks since I was 20 (40+ years ago). I've always needed a truck for my work and other activities and as I near retirement, I have wondered if my next vehicle might be a car. I don't think it would. I like the feel of a truck and the rare times I drive my wife's car I invariably find out that I have to pick up something that won't fit in it.
Don't let the razzing get to you. When you have a big gun, you need the appropriate size holster.

fyi a truck is medium rigid and above. a ute is a c class vehicle

SoCal is a truck bro rich environment.. I work with a number of truck bro guys.. I should post a picture of my friend's gigantic diesel dodge with fairly large lift kit (props to him on the suspension lift not body lift however) on it and humongous off-road tires (to his credit to the best of my knowledge said gigantic diesel pickup is not equipped with any bypass stuff to roll coal on people) ... It will help demonstrate the reasonable restraint my Colorado really represents..

If you used even a small pickup truck here, people would just point at you and laugh xD .

I hear you, I have been to parts of the world that are sans truck... America is still pretty much full of trucks, American dudes love trucks and I am an American dude certainly..
who knows... some day probably will all be stuck with egg looking self-driving pods.. powered by corn oil and unicorn farts?? but for now... I'll be enjoying TRUCK STUFF!!!
I think i'm going to take this stupidity low front air dam off this truck however... I mean WTF Chevy... pretty good ground clearance but then this stupid front air dam.. meh... I haven't ground it on anything yet.. but f*ck this air dam...
Y'all know I'm right ain't no ladies ever said "god d*mn that is a bad ass prius, I want **** the macho man drivin' that treehuggin' tiny wheel having piece of junk" :D
Oh yeah.... because of 'merica... some jacktard in a prius tried to jack rabbit start next to my Truck today... I was all NOPE.. 308 hydrocarbon spewin' horse powers..left his prius way behind... then someone with a new honda ridgeline (lol.. front wheel drive truck.. **** that) also had a go.. result ridgeline slower than Colorado V6 sorry dude.
A Tesla model S however faster than truck... the people driving them don't usually go for it..because they are all terrified of running out of batteries?? or whatever but they are quick if they decide to go for it.... I haven't encountered one having a go yet, but I know for a fact they'd be quicker and that is fine.. because they are not taking a 60" flatscreen home from Costco in a tesla

I don't really get what's so interesting about horsepower or maximising carbon footprints though. I mean I know you president believes climate change is fake, but surely not everything in the US thinks that :p .
Besides, California air is pretty smoggy, not very nice when we were there.

Electric is the future..
people buying gasoline is like gekhakrs and model Ms..
Honestly I will embrace it. A lot of people in Australia are complaining about how to implement electric cars on accounts of the massive distances between everything. But then they did a study and found that the majority of people don't actually travel that far using their personal cars. Most take public transport or are just sooking.
Then again there are some people that do...... like the moron that drove 10 hours to a meeting and then 10 hours back.
-
Tbh, my own car has terrible fuel economy; it's an Audi B3 from 1986. It's older than me, and thirsty. But then again, I've had it for months and not even drained half the tank, and driving it is MUCH greener than buying a new car.

We need solar-powered cars.

We need solar-powered cars.
we really just need solar power..
-
solar is super and all .. but the panels use a fair bit of energy to create .. currently my understanding a Solar Panel needs to be generating for 4~yrs or so to reach the point it has made more power than was used in it's creation.
but they really fly in the renewable energy / electric cars ..etc solar power..blah blah blah. batteries.. batteries have a huge environmental impact in the mining of the materials for them , their production and ultimately their disposal after they have be depleted..

I mean.. do we run out of fossil fuels that soon?? (there is still a lot of oil in the ground) If we want to have a fully honest conversation about sustainability we need to add population control / reduction into the mix.. Human population growth is a primary driver of wilderness destruction and general environmental suckatude...
I mean.. yes absolutely we need to find alternatives.. but as the technology stands I don't believe for a second electric cars are what is going to save us / avoid thunderdome... personally..
.. in my view someone eventually has to be willing to actually confront population growth and then also development of new technologies that may actually work on a large scale..
current EV's just don't get it done... they don't

I mean.. yes absolutely we need to find alternatives.. but as the technology stands I don't believe for a second electric cars are what is going to save us / avoid thunderdome... personally..
.. in my view someone eventually has to be willing to actually confront population growth and then also development of new technologies that may actually work on a large scale..
current EV's just don't get it done... they don't
The human population will top out around 11 billion.. there will be NO MORE after that..
This will be a natural phenomenon with NO Intervention necessary..
For example, ALL developed nations have fertility rate LOWER than 2.. Which means every single developed nation is shrinking.
The only places on earth with growing populations are primitive african continent nations.
As for the fossils, WE WILL RUN OUT, it's not a renewable resource, and it's not easy to find,
Once the middle east dries up, we have to go sustainable, or begin building thunderdomes.

solar is super and all .. but the panels use a fair bit of energy to create .. currently my understanding a Solar Panel needs to be generating for 4~yrs or so to reach the point it has made more power than was used in it's creation.
This is a true, but outdated statement.
Currently it takes a few years to get back the energy, but the newer generation ultrapure silicone solar cells (you know, chlorosilane based stuff) will last for over a decade. It's roughly 2 years of investment for 10 years of free energy at the moment.
If you GENUINELY look into it, or have a general grasp of basic physics, you'll see energy doesn't come free; quite the opposite actually. But we're getting closer and closer to finding a good, or at least relatively profitable, solution. Moreover, I think we'll suddenly find a solution a lot faster when oil DOES actually run out. The only important question is how much of our environment we'll have damaged in the process.
Above all though, one thing is certain. Earth doesn't need us to survive, but we need the Earth to survive. How much we want to shoot ourselves in the foot is up to us. And currently, we're shooting ourselves more in the foot than we should.
Source; I did a PhD in what's basically petrochemical industry :p .

fair enough... good to know.. I'm glad the solar panels are getting better /have shorter time to making more energy then it took to make them.. that is fantastic.. anyone know how much energy it takes to properly recycle / dispose of them at the end of their service life??
also on the batteries since generally you'll need these as well as solar panels.. any idea what the costs ...energy wise, environmental impacts of said batteries .. and any new and exciting improvements on those fronts??

Batteries are still a no go..
Which is why nuclear will still be needed incase we don't invent super duper batteries for nights..

getting back on topics.. if it can tow 7,000lbs I'm all for a hippie renewable energy truck :)

Oh yeah.... because of 'merica... some jacktard in a prius tried to jack rabbit start next to my Truck today...
Congratulations, your Colorado is a hair slower than a 132hp Corolla 0-60 and just edges it out in the 1/4 mile. Such a beast you're driving! :thumb:
Do note, though, that it would get stomped by the mighty 2005 Corolla XRS with it's 170hp. :p

I know so many people with boats, and it seems that the maximum number of times they take said boats out... maybe once every two years, may as well just rent a car that can tow. Same deal with couches.
Utes "Trucks" are worth it if the 4wd and you take those suckers off road. BUT EACH TO THEIR OWN, I DROVE A BOGAN CAR SO I CAN"T REALLY TALK.

Live in Western Europe. Drive bike and public transport everywhere.
For the one or two times a year that I need a car for a trip I'll rent it. Hell of a lot cheaper.
Also, @ 1.96USD per Liter ($7.44 per gallon) plus high road tax and VAT I won't be driving a car for now. Let alone a truck.
I did however learn how to drive in a van and I still really enjoy those. Seems much more practical than a pick up in my opinion.
But good on you for enjoying your new car.

Living in Western Europe, I wouldn't mind a car. And a boat. I wouldn't need to tow it though, as it will be where it belongs -- in the marina :p

fair enough.. I have been having a good time in teh truck.. I quite like it.. also been getting 24~mpg on the highway so no bad at all for the size ..etc of the vehicle.. that is about as good mpg as I have seen on a pickup truck
my dad drives a Ford F150 (ford...bah... true story my dad has drivin' a ford of some sort for the last 30yrs... I have owned 2 fords they both kinda sucked..so I started getting Chevy's.) he also has a 6cylinder motor.. his truck is 10~yrs old he says he gets 10mpg in that thing average..
I've actually had a lot of cars now that I think about it::
Volkswagen Bug, Bus, Jetta GLI and a GTI
Ford Explorer (junk wagon.. but kinda fun but frequently broken and fixed under warranty then traded in... because warranty was about to expire ..as was the rear transaxle I think)
Ford Focus (don't ask me why.. total crapwagon) I was kinda broke and gas was spensive' at the time so I drove that for a bit. (I hated this car probably more than any car i have ever owned)
Dodge Diplomat Police Interceptor (well ex police car anyways) total junk but fun AF
Volvo 240 Sedan , 245GL Wagon (both super fun cars in a big boxy hilarious kinda way.. got kinda scolded by the police doing doughnuts in the snow in the wagon in a closed Kmart parking lot.. but no tickets or anything)
Chevy Cruze, Malibu and now Colorado LT (these have been my last 3 cars all Chevy's all pretty decent.. them customer loyalty deals they keep bringing me back)
kinda of an eclectic collection of cars that I have had at one point or another now that I think about it...
