Title: Harvey's storm / hurricane.
Post by: ideus on Mon, 28 August 2017, 13:18:11
Not living in the area but have family there, which are OK thanks God, and hoping that those GH fellows living there, are doing OK. Unfortunately I am too far to do something to assist the affected ones, but maybe someone closer could.

right.. the feshing.. !!  didn't think about that..

bloomberg says only 27% of damages may be insurance covered..

katrina had been 40% ..

But of course you dont want to listen to bloombery,  they're routinely lying on part of the betting house.

Overall, i'm disappointed that humanity actually has no solution to these 100 year or 1000 year rains..

they design for 6 to 7 inches ,  and even new orleans with pumps can only manage about that much..

civil engineers say there is a solution,  but too expensive,  so the solution is to just let it flood..

Cajun Navy was on standby ready to deploy (Cajun Navy is just a bunch of fishermen, not an actual navy).
However, they are burning through boats as people not yet being rescued are shooting at the boats (because Texas!).

Many insurance companies bailed on New Orleans (would have bankrupted them), so even those covered were not. As if that wasn't enough, the Gov. recently just signed a law, retroactively protecting insurers from high payouts. So yeah, 25% sounds about right, maybe even high. Don't forget, in an effort to destroy FEMA, Trump cut FEMA spending and took 6 months to assign a leader for it (he has only been on the job for 2 months).

Give it a week and the sharks will be there buying property at 10cents on the dollar just like New Orleans. It will be decades before it's back to normal, New Orleans is still a mess.

My thoughts are with those people down there, it's a bad situation.
