Title: Swapping switched on my Ducky Shine 2
Post by: Daniel on Fri, 01 September 2017, 09:38:53
Yo

I got some Gateron reds to replace my Cherry reds but I forgot that I have LEDs (white ones) in my keyboard that I will need to reinstall as well.
My question is which LEDs do I need to buy exactly? I'm assuming the resistors are built into the PCB, so I don't know what kind exactly I should purchase.
I would just reinstall the same ones that I'm taking out but I don't know how to hold them in place, unlike the switches that clip to the plate there's no way (that I know of) to hold them in place while I flip the board and solder their pins.

Thanks for any help..

Maybe you can try to use small alligator clips like these (http://www.australiandirect.com.au/assets/images/Alligator%20Clips) to hold the LEDs in place. It'll probably just be easier to get new LEDs though :P I think the general recommendation for LEDs are 1.8mm or 2x3x4. 3mm are possible, but I've heard they can have issues with some keycap profiles.

At 30:18 of this assembly:

t=612s

he takes a bit of sellotape to hold the leds in place.

Second using tape if you don't get new ones.
