Title: Hurricane Irma
Post by: Air tree on Mon, 04 September 2017, 01:32:09
It's still a few days out and things can change but this storm is looking really really bad, I live in Florida and now the models are pointing towards it just slamming the whole state, Carolina's are on the possible list as well.

Category 4 is pretty likely and category 5 is possible. Stay safe every one and start getting supplies ahead of time, even if it's not a sure thing it will hit you.

If the current trend continues, I'm likely dipping out of Florida, I live in Brevard county, Florida about 500 feet from the beach.

Just don't run your generators in the house..... it may sound pretty ****ing straight forward but people still **** it up and gas themselves/families to death.

yea, was on a camping trip once,  it started to rain, so cars had to line up to pack into the parking lot for the camp site. There was a mother and child who fell asleep in their car with the engine running.. and they died..

I wonder if new cars have a sensor for this sort of thing.

Air tree recently bought a grocery store,  and he is trying to unload his bottled water and canned products before the storm..

Looks like only category 4..  so that's not as bad as the 5..  but yea... get that boat ready if you're in the flood zone.

Unless it hits Cuba, it's unlikely to slow down too much, even more so with the 30C-33C water that it has to strengthen, still as a cat 4 it can and will cause a lot of damage.

Upgraded to Cat 5 last I saw. Wherever it makes landfall, it's gonna be ugly.

I wouldn't stop at moving north, go west too. Some projections have it going up to SC. If what IATTFT is saying is anything to go by, you want to have been out yesterday and filled up your tanks last week. I know it was a nightmare trying to fill up two days before Matthew hit last year, so if you've not done it yet you're too late.

i got the opener that just cuts the side of the can, instead of the top..   works real good, until you come up against a non-standard can.. and you can't open it. hahahahahah

can these people run generators in their high rise apartments ?

I guess if they made an air duct, or an active air inlet, it should be fine.

Powers flickered  a few times so far already.   Looks like we are not going to have it quite as bad as everyone was thinking here in WPB, but it's still going to suck tomorrow.

I feel for the West coast of FL.  Vesper lives in Tampa.

No, not a mandatory evacuation zone.  Most of those folks live right next to the beach, inter coastal, or in flood prone low lying sections.

I live about 7 miles from the beach.

Categories are black and white for scientific reasons, it was only 1mph short of being a cat 3 when people started saying it was downgraded

Categories are also based only on wind, not storm surge, which is what usually kills.
It's like them talking about all the tornadoes... Those tiny tornadoes were slower that the storm just a couple hours behind.
