Title: [IC] CKL TKL
Post by: clasicks on Sun, 10 September 2017, 14:42:27
A few folks and I have been lazily talking about getting something together that combines two things we like. The HHKB layout mashed into a TKL design.

I have a lead on someone who may be interested in designing something like this, but I wondered if there was a substantial amount of people interested in it.

Right now, pure pipe dream - just looking for anyone with concrete interest. Please comment with thoughts.

KLE is attached.

Updated with proper proposed bottom row

If this does not happen, there will be consequences.

Designing a plate you mean? You can use any TKL PCB and cover the Control keys.

I'm assuming designing the case with blockers.

Might be blasphemy, but how about removing the normal escape key?

Not just a plate. but a full case milled with blockers in this layout. Aluminim, CNCed, Annoed - 2 parts. Weight, sure why not.

When diving into blasphemy might as well explore all options. I like your idea - i think the gap between the f keys are a little large for my taste - that and esc usage is habitual in the top left.

I did not know what to put there hence my L1 on the typical 60% esc

The Space Bar is 6u on the HHKB. It is just the 1.5-1-1.5 - 6 - 1.5-1-1-1.5 bottom-row layout that the Realforce keyboards have but without the keys on the sides.
That layout should be supported by several existing keyboards.  For instance, the Phantom PCB supports it with a 6u space bar - it even supports Fouras' layout above.

However, it would be nice to have an updated Phantom design with the controller on the PCB (which would increase compatibility with third-party cases) and support for PCB-mounted switches.

That layout should be supported by several existing keyboards.  For instance, it and layouts with one continuous line of function keys are supported by the Phantom PCB.

Yes many PCB's support this layout. Would make it easy to bring costs down if its only a case+plate design+manu.

I tend to stick with 7u for mx hhkb's - easier for GMK compability.

Ah. Now I see that you have 1.25u Alt keys, instead of the regular 1.5u keys that otherwise go with 7u space.

The 6u-space bar layout is nicer if you are used to a 6.25u space layout and use the right Alt key as it then is in the same space on both. In European layouts the right Alt is Alt Graph - with a different meaning, used for accessing third and fourth layers of symbols.

oh damn good catch, they are supposed to be 1-1.5-7-1.5-1 - will update the layout
